Hi everyone, I haven't posted for a while but a friend of mine called with a dilemma and who better to ask than you all! She had the surgery a year ago and has lost 175 pounds About a month ago she had an incident that she attributed to eating the wrong kind of food. She went back to soups and was fine. She then added a salad and the pain started again. After happening a few more times she went to her surgeon. He said because she lost so much weight in such a short time that her cavity was too roomy and was allowing her intestines to twist and kink up. He recommeds surgery to tack down her intestines so they don't twist again. Anyone ever heard of this before? Thanks, Kathleen

I have heard of this. In fact I spoke with my surgeon about it in regards to things that can happen post-op. His explanation was a bit different. He said that as we lose weight so does the rest of our body. All those cool insides too and that, even though they tack down things nice and tight during surgery, when we are losing the fat those areas are losing it as well sometimes causing looseness and twisting and kinking. My surgeon said about this happens to about (if I remember correctly) 2% of WLS patients. It is my understanding this is not something to play around with. Are they taking care of her any time soon? Ugh, yeah I have heard this before. In fact I was in the ER not too long ago from stomach pain. They checked my intestines out to see if anything was twisted and all seemed to be ok. The pain eventually went away and I have been alright since then. But it always scares the poo out of me! I hope she will be alright. My prayers are with her. Elizabeth M
