Hi again everyone. You are probably saying this girl... This is my question. I do not have frozen fruit. I tried doing my protein shake with milk and unflavored protein and yeah right it was so nasty that I almost wanted to gag. So hopefully if I add fruit it will taste better RIGHT??? Next question is frozen or fresh fruit better for us? I thought I read on a package of frozen strawberries and they were high in sugar. Can someone please help me?? I also am a smeller. I smell everything that I eat, drink...etc. I do not like yogurt so is there any other options out there for the protein drink, or is my best bet of advice add protein powder to applesauce and other food????? THANKS A MILLION (((hugs)))) still learning Christie~~4 days post op

Christie, Did you try any protein powders pre-op? I personally used choc and vanilla (whey tech from Vitamin Shoppe, these are sweetened with Splenda), and change it up a bit whenever. I also used skim milk with the powder. I'm not a fan of the carb countdown. I only used the unflavored powder in Chrystal light or soups etc, something that already had flavor. Hope you have some flavored protein powders around to help get your protein in. I'd wait on the on the fruits a bit, fruits naturally have sugar and you want to get used to eating without taking any chances on dumping. If you do want to use frozen fruit, I've used plain yougurt, frozen fruit and a scoop of vanilla prot powder and used the blender. IT's yummy. You can try peanut butter in the choc or vanilla too and blend it. That was a favorite of mine too. Good luck, and congrats.

Hey Christie! I too, am a 'smeller', I had to mix Crystal Light w/Unjury protein powder, then I could only tolerate it if it was in a water bottle with a sport cap (then I was tasting & NOT smelling...made it more palatable). As far as fruits? I have done very little with fruits and I'm 5 months out..that has been MY preference. I would definitely check sugar contents, as Tina said, you DO NOT want to dump, especially this early out when the new pouch is still healing. Best of luck! Valerie

Yes I did try protein powder before surgery Tina. I still did not like it. I was just wondering if I could get it in another way though that's all. Christie

Christine, Like you, I am a 'smeller" and I could most definitely smell most of the protein powders. Plus I didn't like the way it foamed and/or changed the consistency of my food/drink. ***Have you tried the mixes they sell at Dr. Iragu's? Hot Chocolates, Soups...etc. They have 15 grams of protein per 8 oz serving. They're not too bad. (I like the soups the best.) ***Or Carb Countdown milk? It's got 12 grams per 8 oz. serving. (The chocolate milk, heated for a couple minutes in the mircowave, makes an excellent hot chocolate. I also use the FF white milk to make steamers. You can also add some of the D'vinci SF syrups to flavor it.) Tastes like a coffeehouse drink. ***Carb Countdown also has yogurt that is 12 grams per 6 oz. container. I put Wheat Germ in it and it ups the protein another 4 grams to 16 grams. ***Atkins makes a Morning Start "granola type" bar that has 12 or 13 grams per bar. I keep them in my car, purse, etc. for a quick meal if I am out. All have been lifesavers for me!!! I also like the unflavored Unjury. I make SF pudding (with Carb Countdown milk of course!). That's 16 grams per 4 oz. serving. WIth Unjury, you just have to be "careful: with the temperature of the food or drink -- it gets gloppy real easily. Don't put it in hot foods until after the food is warmed up. Lately, I've been using the Carb Countdown milk to make the Drs. Mixes. That makes it 27 grams per 8 oz. serving. I KNOW it's not as much protein as you can get from some of the powders but I feel that at least I am getting it in without gagging! I'm not sure if I am overdoing it with the dairy -- since in addition to the milk I am doing yogurt and cheese -- so I am going to check with the nutritionist at PMRI. I have my 6-month appt this coming week. Hope this helps! Kit
