Beware Chewable Protein Wafers!
Hi!
I'm one of those post-ops who still haven't found a protein drink that she can stomach. I've tried drinks from Trader Joe's, GNC, Vitamin Shoppe and BJ's but I can't take the taste of most of them (and some make me nauseous). I also haven't found any powders that I like yet so I started looking for options and I found "chewable Protein wafers".
Well, I'm passing this along to anyone who is also thinking about using chewable protein wafers. Bottom line, use caution!
I've tried both of the chewable protein tablets that I ordered. The taste isn't bad (chew fast and chase with skim milk) but it's clear from the labels that these are not designed for gastric bypass patients.
Vitamin Power - Soy-Rich Protein (chewable tablets - chocolate flavored); serving size = 3 tablets; Each serving (3 tabs) has 8 calories, 1400mg of protein and a whopping 600mg of CARBS and 60mg of FAT. Yikes! They also list "compressable sugar" as an ingredient.
To offset the awful Carb & Fat counts, I'm only taking 1 tablet a day. That should help with my low protein since there's 467mg of protein in 1 tablet.
Nutrina Dietary Supplement - Chewable Protein Wafers (vanilla flavored); serving size = 1 wafer; Each wafer has 320mg of Soy Protein. The problem I have with these is that the ingredients list "cane sugar" but the label doesn't tell you how many calories, carbs or fat grams are in the wafers.
I sent Nutrina an email but they still haven't replied with any details so I'm not taking them at all.
Debbie is right about the Carb Countdown, I had a tough time with milk and this is fine with me -- although if you just read my last post you know I am repeating myself!!!
I just wanted to let everyone know, I got the chocolate variety last week. Never liked chocolate milk - ever. But I heat this up and it is better than any hot chocolate. No lumps, it's rich tasting...
Hi,
I am about 6 months out and I remember the challenge of finding a protein drink that you can live with. I really like the products at the docs office. They come in a variety of flavors (cappacino, hot chocolate, teas and oatmeals) and give you various ways to mix the drinks to make smoothies etc. There are 15 gms of protein in a pack and 7 packs to a box. ($7 a box) They also sell unjury in the vanilla, cho0colate and unflavored that is 20 gms a scoop!
Vernette at the docs office has sample packs of the unjury if you want to try the different flavors.
Take care!
