How long was everyones surgery? Do they really put that thing up your nose for drainage reasons? How long was everyones hospital stay?

Hello, I have not personally have had surgery but in the support group they stated surgery is anywhere from 1 1/2 - 2 hrs. could be as long as 3 hours. They put the tube up your nose but you are normally asleep. Your hospital stay varies, if you have lap and everything goes fine then it is only 2 days. Hope this helps. Christie

Last saw my wife at 6 am, and woke up in recovery around noon. I think the doc said it was about 3 hours. Must have put the drain through my nose, but I honestly do not remember. Had to cough up some dark mucus, so figure the tube must have irritated. The doc will talk to whomever is waiting for you right after surgery. Dont worry about the tube.

Hello L! Laparascopic RNY lasts approx. 1 1/2 - 2 hrs, typically. You are intubated during surgery, but normally it is removed right after because you can breathe on your own at that point. You don't really even know you had it. There is a drain tube inserted in your side that is kept in place for usually 2 days. Some folks go home with it but not often. Let me tell you, when that drain is removed, you'll want to kiss the person *****moved it! The average stay for a lap RNY is 2 days, a bit longer for "opens", I'm told. Sandi

Well, thats a tough question...I was actually Dr. Wynn's first 45 minute procedure! Yep....45 minutes. I was lucky, she said everything was just in the right place etc. and when she was done and looked at the clock..was very surprised how fast it was. So, it could be a longer surgery..or even a shorter one. Either way...I have had no regrets! Hugs, Kimberly

Length of surgery depends on the surgeon... and if you are fairly normal inside when they get in there. I dont remember anything about any tubes in my nose... but I woke up with two very small tubes coming from my abdomen called JP drains to drain the fluid from all the surgical activity. I had a lap procedure but spent a little over a week in the hospital as a precautionary measure... turned out nothing was wrong, but they werent sure if my intestines 'woke up' enough for me to leave, so they kept me in limbo. ciao Susan Maria BariatricEating.com
