Howdy All, I am trying different things now, see what i like so when (no date yet, still jumping through the hoopes) I am home and healing I don't make myself ill. I was wondering about protein bars, do you all prefer the bars or more liquid forms, and what are the numbers I should focus on when going about buying either of these items, number of protein, sugar, carb g's ect. thanx a bunch, Christina

Hi Christina, Personally I get the majority of my protein through food at this point, but early on ( an on occasion I still do ) used shakes as well as bars. I am fortunate that ther are very few things I can't tolerate. I like Zero Carb Isopure, Jim's Permalean Powder ( got that at docs office ) Carbwell bars and Quaker Q-Smart bars are good too. I look at the overall nutrition on the rare occasion I have a bar, alot of them are nothing more than glorified candy bars and should be treated as such in my opinion. Watch for sugar alcohols since you don't know how they will affect you, the consequences can be severe LOL. I also up my protein count when making a shake by using Carb Countdown milk to mix it. You can experiment now, but remember there is a good chance your tastes and tolerances will change as a post-op, so don't buy a case of something now and find later you wasted your money on something you can't use. Chrisina, Like Linda, I can tolerate just about anything, but I take the liquid approach. Since I sit at a desk at work all day, then am on my feet in the evening at my PT job. I CONSTANTLY have a drink with me. Either Unjury with some sort of flavoring (DaVinci SF syrups), the Syntrax Nectars, or water. I have a protein shake before I go to the gym in the morning. Right now, I'm sipping on the hot chocolate from the doc's office. I keep protein bars around for 'just in case'. Oatmeal for breakfast, salad for lunch, and a "normal" dinner. WARNING: just because you like it before surgery, doesn't mean that you will like it after. Lots of people say that their tastes change after surgery. Mine didn't, but I seem to be the exception! Hope this helps. Ken

I really like the Gold protien bars I get at Costco. They have a little more sugar than I like to see in the foods I eat, but they taste great. I dont bother with foods that have little or no value beyond filling me up. Salad is a perfect example. I use Unjury unflavored protien power to fortify sauces, soup, mashed taters, etc. adds additional protien and in well seasoned items in undetectable. Getting enough protien is the focus of my eating day, but you cannot totally skip carbs, your body needs them for important things, like brain function and when I find mine, I want it in top working order.
