Happily Two Weeks and Three Days Post-op
It's hard to believe...after all the months of preparation the - day came and went and here I am - 22lbs lighter...all of my pre-surgical ankle and calf swelling completely gone...I'm walking a mile a day...and I'm going back to work part-time on Monday! I never guessed I would recover so well! Meeting the protein requirements is a daily challenge - but since Dr. Peters suggested the fruit flavored powder supplements (they taste like crystal light!) that problem has been resolved too! I'm still on pureed and at times I have moments of "missing" foods I used to eat....but I stay focused on the outcomes and it turns me around. Today I am wearing pants I haven't worn in over a year and my shoes are getting loose! If you're having a rough day I hope you read this and it helps!
Welcome to the boards Beth. Congrats on the easy surgery. Try to stay focused and positive. You now know what you feared the most was the unknown. Surgery sounds like it already agrees with you. 22 lbs, awesome. But the best news is about your general health and the legs already in better health. Walking a mile and loving it. Sounds like your priorities are in the right place. Each day will be better and easier for you. Have you tried the Unflavored Unjury yet? You can put it in almost anything and hardly tell it's there. I know, I know, some of us hate the protein powders. Just a matter of taste and a little luck in finding the right ones that we can tolerate. Keep up the great job. Elissa
Hi Beth,
Congrats on getting through your first two weeks (+ three days)! This is a great place to get support and encouragement. You'll learn a lot!
I've been using protein supplements like Unjury ever since my surgery in August and my advice to you is just keep trying! I have found that I have to almost be a "chemist" to get the proportions right! Sometimes I make the exact same thing several times and it comes out a different consistency each time! Sometimes it's wonderful; other times it goes right down the disposal!
Is there anyone out there who might have tips or tricks about working with Unjury or the other protein powders??? I am careful about measuring, use a thermometer for hot foods and drinks...I have a real problem with the powders foaming up like crazy too.
THANKS IN ADVANCE!
