The Main Message Board

Hi Everyone I just started browsing at the main message board a few days ago thinking that I could pick up some pointers. I can't figure out what is going on over there. It seems like everyone is having a major PMS moment. All this back and forth. I have decided that I am staying with the DE board where all the love and support is. ((Hugs)) Rose

This board is typically a bit quiet for me so I hang out at the main board. It has it's occasional flare ups. Today was one. I have noticed they are getting a bit farther inbetween. Here's hoping that's a trend that stays around! Gigee By the way... where did everyone go on this board? When I started lurking back in July it was a busy little place!

I must say that I was MIA for the past month or so because of the holidays. But it's January and I'm almost back to normal after the Christmas craze.... So, perhaps some of the other have been busy too!

Welcome back! I've missed the busy-ness around here. Seems as soon as I quite lurking tons of others started LOL. I hope to see everyone around and talking. If i go by a voicemail I had Friday it looks like they will give me a surgery date when I call them back on Monday. I would much rather have the support and learning experiences of people close to home . Guess I'll have to talk up this place to the folks in my Lifeskills class and get them to signup and chime in Gigee

Hi Rose! I tend to stay away from the Main Message Board. The couple of times that I've tried to get information there, I was given bad/incorrect information. There also seems to be a lot of negativity found there as well. Don't forget that people's experiences are vastly different depending on the pre-care, surgeon and after-care. There aren't many surgeons that use the rigorous appraoch used by Dr. Irgau & Dr. Wynn. A final word about the Main Message Board, I was astonished by the number of people who don't know how to take care of themselves properly after surgery. One woman said her hair was falling out and she didn't know why. I sent her back a 1 word reply - PROTEIN. I then explained why her lack of protein was causing her problems. Scary stuff out there! That's also the reason that I don't spend lots of time on the Yahoo OSSG sites. Folks have some strange notions of what they should be eating and doing after surgery. Cassandra

I hate seeing people who say that they just dont do protein. I dont get that. They say "I dont like the drinks or the way they taste so I dont do them." I dont get it because we dont absorb the nutrients in our food like we use to! We need those drinks or so I was always told. Maybe proximal rny is different and that is what some had done but since I have distal its even less absorbtion, hence the supplements and vitamins forever. Am I off? Yeah you see some crazy stuff on the main board but I still like to go there anyways. Some people are really well informed but others... scary!! OR OR... I always like when I read... "My surgery is tomorrow...can you tell me what I need? I have no clue! What vitamins should I have and what type of food?" ... I have seen that sooo many times on that board. Holy moly its scary to see that. Makes me so thankful for PMRI and Dr. Wynn!!! Elizabeth M

Elizabeth, I agree with you about how thankful we should be for Drs. Iragu and Wynn. And I can share my personal experience with you. I started out seeing another surgeon and I was actually on his surgery schedule to have an open RNY last April. But I had a consult appointment scheduled with Dr. Iragu in March -- that I had made approx. 6 months prior (because I had to wait that long for an opening). Since I was so far along with the other doc, I seriously considered cancelling Dr. Iragu's appt. But I really wanted to know more about lap surgery. I ended up going to the PMRI meeting ("the first 3 months after surgery") on a Saturday AM. I IMMEDIATELY realized that I was fairly clueless and about to have surgery -- and that SCARED me!!! I saw Dr. Iragu on the following Thursday. I came out from that appointment and realized that if I valued my health -- and my life -- I would go with Dr. Iragu! I sat in Dr. I's parking lot and called my other surgeon to cancel my surgery! I ended up having to wait another 5 months for Dr. Iragu. But it was well worth it! I did a lot of whining (and OH members who saw my postings in May-June...will remember that ) It was because I thought it was taking "too long." But wow, who knew, I had no clue about protein supplements, or vitamins, or exercise or ???? until I saw Drs. Iragu and Wynn!
