Standing on the other side of the mountain - post-op - 4 days
Hi!
Just a quick note of thanks for all of your support, encouragement and prayers. God is good (and so is Dr. Irgau). Surgery was complication-free and recovery is going well. I have many people on this board to thank for their honesty, open hearts and willingness to share their experiences with me. My thanks to each and every one of you!
My surgery was on Monday-1/3/05. As of this writing (January 6, 2005), I can honestly say that it wasn't what I expected but it also wasn't as terrifying as I had imagined. I did have some tearful moments yesterday when I kept wondering what I had just done to my body but that subsided once I got home, showered and in my own bed.
The worst parts for me were the removal of the JP Drain and the inability to urinate upon request. They had bladder scanned me twice and were about to do a "straight catheterization" when God stepped in and answered our prayers and I was able to urinate without further "prompting".
I have already been able to walk around my block and bring in my mail. It's funny how those simple tasks take on new meaning post-op.
Thanks to all of you. You are all of my angels and I couldn't have made it this far without you!
Peace & blessings!
Cassandra

Hi Cassandra
Welcome to the Loser's Side. Wasn't that first shower at home wonderful. And your bed, wasn't that first night's sleep in your own bed truly blissful.
I am so glad that you are doing well. Remember to take your time and not overdo things. Concentrate on getting your protein in, getting your liquids in, and walking to better health.
I found that warm water with lemon was easier for my new tummy than cold water.
Take care. ((Hugs)) Rose
Welcome home Cassandra,
Feel free to ask any questions on here. This message bored really help me when I was full of questions. Take it from me, when you get to eat soft foods remember to chew slowly and eat slower than you use too. That was my hardest thing to do. But after a few times of purging and cramping, I rememberd!! You will have allot of different mix feeling about everything but it will pass. Its been a little over 1 yr since I had my surgery and I still have to remember "Small portions" is all I need. My stomach is smaller but my mind is still large, LOL In the long run, you will be glad you did it!! Congrats!! Beth
Cassandra, welcome home! Ain't it grand! And even grander to get that tube out! Hurt like crazy coming out but was bliss afterward! I also had a hard time peeing on request/demand but finally managed to. Since I've been home, it just keeps getting better and better! I had a few tense, emotional, and OMG moments when I wondered what the !$&! I just did to myself, but that passed. I've been doing excellently well, as will you!! Walk that block, girl!! Take care! Sandi
