RESTAURANTS THAT CATER TO GASTRIC BYPASS!!!!
Just wondering if anyone in lower delaware knows any restaurants that cater to a la carte or small portion menu items that we can eat. I have been very disappointed in Bob Evans, Milford Diner and some other restaurants that just want to offer a grilled chicken sandwich "just take off the bread" type answer. I'm so tired of turkey or chicken and mashed potatoes or baked potato or sweet potato. Thats all they seem to offer. What about grilled or broiled fish? What about vegetables? Maybe I've gone to the wrong places. Anyone know of any restaurants in Milford, Rehoboth or Lewes Dover? Thanks a bunch
Nancy,
I learned that you can order from the Children's menu at Outback..and get the steak etc..for like a 2.00 up charge..still cheaper then the regular size meal..and still way more then we eat.
Another option is to ask restraunts for their lunch size portions..thats a way you don't have to always disclose your condition etc.
I'm looking forward to hear what you learn.
Hugs,
Kimberly
Nancy -
Along with Outback, I have found that Cracker Barrel lets us bigger kids order from the kids menu. There are actually many restaurants that will let you do the kids menu or a Senior portion..which is smaller.
I just tell them that I'm dieting and eat very small portions.
Hope this helps! OH, one of the other things I do is order a water, that way the wait staff isn't hovering, trying to offer you a drink. I either put it off to the side or put salt in it (so I'm not tempted to drink it). Someone at a meeting said they actually ask for a 'to go' box when they get their meal and put the portion they won't eat right into the box. That way, it's out of site and the staff isn't asking 'was everything alright?'
Just a couple of thoughts...

Hi,
A couple of months ago, someone mentioned going to Applebee's for the Steak Chili. I tried it and really like. It is only 3.99 and is a small portion, although I still have to take some home and it reheats well. Also I tried their half salads with steak or chicken. I didn't eat it all but don't feel so bad about just leaving lettuce on the plate. Also Applebee's had that "To Go" option and I have gotten the chili to go lots of times. It has become my favorite.
Hi Nancy,
I'm not far from you at all... right around the corner actually. I know at Bob Evans you can order off the childrens menu for an additional cost. As far sa the diner, I almost always eat soup from there!! I really haven't noticed anywhere that caters to WLS patients, but when I do ask aboutb a special order, most places are pretty nice about it, sorry about your experiences... Take care.. Jess
