Deborah, Welcome. The Nutrionist & Dr's will explain about all the vitamins you'll need to start taking. Also this is covered heavily in the support group meetings that you can attend also. The support Groups in this area are at PMRI, 1st Monday & 3rd Saturday's, Va Med 3rd Thursday, WLS-NDE 1st Monday , Healthy Beginings starting in January on the 2nd Thursday. Stay tuned. More info is usually posted at the beginning of each month. The long and short of it is that your body after WLS does not absorb all the nutrients that it did previously. This mal-absorption can hurt a lot of things permantly. So to compensate you will need to take certain vitamins & protein to keep you healthy for the REST OF YOUR LIFE. B12., calcium, a multi-vitamin, iron (if still pre menopasal) preferably chewable or liquid. The dosages can be covered with the Dr's. We do have loads of info on this subject to share with you. About the hair loss. This can be expected about 3-9 months after surgery. There are a few things you can do to help. I started using Nioxin products for thinning hair. Biotin and Rogaine will also help. These products will not stop the hair loss. They will promote new hair growth. They are successful. I have tons of new angel hairs all over my scalp. They are coming in gray, but WHO CARES???? Sounds like you are in the research mode of your journey. Keep asking questions. Try to read our profiles. Soooo much to learn in order to make a sound decision for the rest of your life. Good Luck, God Bless. Elissa

Deborah, Yes research your heart out CHeck out my profile and many others on here to have an idea of what to expect. I posted a very nice "reminder" from a doctors office (not in delaware) but the reminder is something we have to always understand that we have to be responsible for ourselves when it comes to taking our supplements and vitamins and such. Dr. Wynn's office has me taking zinc and biotin for my hair loss and of course extra protien. I take b12 and a multi vitamin in liquid form from the vitamin shoppe that I have been told is very effective for weight loss surgery patients. Calcium chews (viactive) although we need the citrate form (which my liquid has) and iron. Flax seed is always good for you just for extra healthy food. Get yourself some protein powder to always have on hand to add a little extra protein to your foods. Have your protein drinks always on hand. I personally love the isopure already made in a bottle. I get them from the vitamin shoppe. I like the blue rasberry and the pineapple/orange/bannana flavor. 40 grams of protein in 20 oz bottle. our supplements and vitamins are SUPER important to take FOREVER. The thing the doctors note urges us to remember in my profile is that we will NEVER be normal after this surgery NEVER and people tend to forget that when they start feeling "normal" again and can eat more things than they could the longer they are out. Its sooo important to continue taking care of ourselves by taking our supplements and vitamins and such. The hair loss...unfortunately I hear there is nothing you can do once the cycle has started. You wait it out and like Elissa said...take some things that will help promote new hair growth. I wish you all the best on your journey and read read read Elizabeth M
