Christmas Food
Howdy there Delaware...Maryland...PA...Oz...wherever lol
I saw this on the main board and thought I would post over here to see what the locals were planning for holiday food. I have been so incredibly busy the last week or so and tonight I finally have some time to breathe. Ok, for 5 minutes anyway till I haul my butt out the door for a hike around the block.
I was able to get a visit in to my sister in the nursing home today, it was nice because she was mostly all smiles. Sad tho because most of the time she cries without making a sound. She still can't communicate, and has a permanent trach and feeding tube. They say she will live the rest of her days in a nursing home.
Sooo, anyway, what's for dinner?
Most of the family is coming to my house Christmas Eve, so I'm serving dinner buffet style that night. Christmas dinner the next day will be at my inlaws. I'm serving:
Spiral ham
Deli meat and cheese
Potato salad
Veggie plate
Fruit plate
Cheese and pepperoni
Pickles and olives
Pepperoni bread
asst rolls and breads for the ham
I'm baking sugar free apple and cherry pie
Mini muffins ( apple cinnamon, banana nut and blueberry )
asst crackers, chips and pretzels with onion dip and ranch )
LOl, I'm making a ton of food, I'm expecting about 25 people that night give or take. I find I love to cook and bake even if I myself only eat a small amount of what's served. I pay much more attention to the conversation and 'event' these days. The eating is secondary now.

Linda -
I'm sorry to hear about your sister. I'm sure this is extremely hard on everyone concerned. And you know, my father came along much further and lived much longer than they gave him. They also said they wanted him to go to a nursing home and my mother refused. He went to Pellport (now PMRI!) and did rehab there for at least 6 months..then he came home to live and did outpatient therapy.
So, there is hope! It's the season for miracles, right? I'll keep you in my prayers.
As for dinner...Mom & I do (every year), the big Xmas Eve dinner here, more or less buffet style. I've decided less hot food and more finger type foods. Everyone comes & goes at different times and it's exhausting. SO..
Spiral ham
Turkey breast
Pasta salad
deviled eggs
my world famous stuffing (ok, it's my brothers fav!)
veggie tray/dip
chips/dip
pickles/olives
cheese & rolls for sandwiches
hot veggies if needed for the 3 younger ones
OH, yeah, we added Bruschetta to our list! YUM!
Happy Holidays!
Valerie

Hi everyone. I have been busy this year. I still love to prepare & cook for the Holidays. However I'll only take small bites of everything.
Here's my menu for the family. Mom, hubby, brother, kids, grandkids and the outlaws. Not a set time to eat. Just come and make a platter or just pick. If you are in the area, stop in. My Xmas lights look awesome. Thanks to hubby. Hope everyone has a safe and Blessed Holiday. Elissa & Charlie

I don't have to cook this year except for mac&cheese to take to my mom's on Christmas day. We go to my sister-inlaw's on Christmas eve and my mom's on chirstmas. Every year she makes prime rib her famous coleslaw, this year she wants mac&cheese, says she can't make it so I am. But next sunday Jan 2 is my husbands birthday I am cooking a big birthday dinner so all of his brothers and sisters can come.
Merry Christmas, Dana
Linda,
Glad to hear your sister is smiling. Bless her. It has to be so hard I am keeping her and your family in my prayers.
Well... for christmas eve dinner we dont eat meat so we have alot of seafood. scallops and shrimp and casserols and such. so that will be super yummy! BUT on christmas morning my mother makes a fresh ham!! not the pink stuff... the fresh brown stuff that just falls apart all juicy and such!!! Its my favorite thing about christmas aside from Jesus of course!!! I think presents come second to the christmas ham!! oh and cookies. Darn cookies!
