I have been reading up on everything I can about all of this and I don't think I would have the major gastric bypass, but the lap band sounds very appealing to me. Does anyone know if Irgau and Wynn do that as I have my first appt. with them in Feb. I have not ruled out the bypass, but I am leaning more towards not having it for many reasons. Thanks if anyone can help me with this information. Tracey

Hi Tracey Drs Irgau and Wynn perform both surgeries. Many insurance companies don't cover the lap band surgery. Check with your insurance company to see which surgeries are covered. Best of luck to you as you start your journey to better health. Rose

Tracey, Yep, they sure do ... here is a link for their website that explains it a bit. They also have a mini explanation on the other procedures as well. (www.) chrias.com/lapband.htm The girl that prepped me for surgery had a lap band by Dr Irgau, and was having a fill right after my surgery. She was thrilled not only with the band but with the docs as well. We talked quite a bit about it. (she was busy keeping my mind busy - but I really appreciated it). Best wishes with your decision! I was also considering the lap band; however my insurance would not cover it. I then decided to have the gastric bypass and I am so happy that I did. My surgery was on 11/17/04 and I am feeling great. I hope your insurance covers the lap band Franca

The decision by the surgeons on weither they will do lap- band or GBP is based upon your weight at the initial visit and your BMI if your BMI is above 55, they wont do the lap-band because GBP will give you a better long term result ( more weight loss).I asked about it prior to my surgery, and I didn't qualify for it, besides their is a greater frequency of revision and you end up with GBP anyway.
