Women Only!!!
Hello Ladies,
I have a question about irregular menstruation post-op. Well, I don't know if I should call it "irregular". It's regular alright!
Pre-surgery, I had a 28 day cycle time on the nose. I am 3 months post-op and I'm getting my period every 19-20 days. As soon as I go off my period, I feel the PMS coming on again.
I don't remember discussing this in class! Has anyone else had a shortening of days between periods since surgery?
Thanks,
Angie
Hi,
Just some info that I've learned. Estrogen is stored in fat cells. When we lose weight rapidly, this estrogen is released rapidly into our bodies. This can wreck havic on our monthly cycles.. and does. I have had issues with my cycles and have had a bad mamogram and had to have a breast biopsy (which was negative). The doctor at the mamography office kept insisting that I must be taking HRT's (hormone replacement therapy- estrogen..) because of the changes and cysticness of my breasts were consistant with someone on HRT, although I had never taken them. No one ever mentioned that even your mamograms can be affected by this surgery, so ladies, be aware. My gyn says that things will settle down once the weight loss stablizes. My weight has stabilized for over 3 months, but I haven't seen much improvement in the cycle issue.
Hope this helps.
Angie,
At first things were a bit off for me also. While I was still regular for the most part, I could never count on how heavy or light my cycle would be. Things finally started to even out, and then WHAM ... two months without a cycle. Now things are pretty much normal except that instead of being 28 days regular, I am 27 days regular and my periods are quite a bit lighter than I have been accustomed to in my adulthood. I think the missed periods were when I really was not eating near enough and I was exercising pretty heavily. If I were you, I would check with the docs about your cycle shortening ... they may want to monitor your iron levels a little closer?
Hugs,
Tammy
Hi Angie, After surgery, I had the worst cramps and heavy flow. I think my birth control pill must have still been in my system because I was still coming on every 28 days. Now I am back on the pill and I still come on every 28 days, the cramps are still horrible, but the flow has lightened up a little. While in the hospital, I did come on my period early but it was only 2 days before my regular cycle. Sorry you are having this problem. ~Shelly
