Hi everyone Is it okay to drink the juice at communion after the surgery? I am thinking that since it is only about a small mouthful, that it should be okay. Someone at work asked me this today. Rose

Rose- I spoke with my Pastor about this right after and before surgery. When you are a new post-op that little bit of wine has too much sugar for you to tolerate. So my suggestion is go ahead with communion but just have the bread. Speak to the Pastor ahead of time so s/he knows what is going on. I have a very open relationship with mine and he was with me on my whole choice of the surgery, so he understood. Then about after 6 months of being a post-op, I could tolerate more sugar and was able to take the wine. I do have both now and am glad of my decision. Now my church does offer grape juice to those who want that, but I refused, because again that has to much sugar when you are a new post op. Not only that you should not be mix liquid and solid together as a new post op. Plus in the first month you are to be on pureed, soft foods and to me the bread/wafer is to dry by itself. I think God would understand if you missed a week or two. I would still go up front to get blessed. Hope this helps. Nicki

Hi Rose, I took communion right from the beginning and haven't ever had a problem. When in doubt ask the doc's or the nutritionist. We use juice at our church and it seems to be pretty diluted as well. Hope this helps. God Bless, Mama
