As I'm trying to prepare myself for surgery and after, is there anything that is really important that you need to tell me in case I forgot? What should I take to the hospital? Will I be kind of laying around when I'm not walking or will I be up and moving about when I get home from the hospital? I'm getting scared and nervous at the same time. My mom's coming and staying with me for a couple of weeks, I hope that was a good idea. Thanks for listening once again. I'm sure as the time gets closer I'll be burning some ears. Michele

Hi there, Michelle! Really, the clothes on your back (wear something loose into the hospital), take chap stick or something for your lips (it's dry in the hospital). If you need a 'scratcher' take something you can use. Really, there is nothing else you need. They give you a gown, 'robe' and non slip socks. OH, if you are 'hot blooded', take your own fan - it can be hot and it takes forever to get one (if you get lucky enough). You will be up and moving as soon as you can and you will be expected to walk, walk, walk. Best of luck to you and NEVER feel guilty about asking questions. Valerie

Michele, I took chapstick, my own toothbrush, toothpaste, a comb & brush. That's about it. Oh I did bring a list of phone numbers of people I wanted to call. I also left a list for my husband of who I wanted him to call right away. I was up and walking within an hour of getting to my room. You will more than likely be sitting around after, laying takes a little effort for the 1st couple days. Some people sleep in a recliner for a week or 2. I was able to sleep in my own bed with a few pillows propped under arms so I wouldn't roll on the drain site side. I started cooking diner the night after I was released from the hospital. Life does go on. My hubby still had to eat. It'll be nice to have your Mom there. You won't be able to drive for 2 weeks and I'm sure you'll want to get out of the house and walk at the mall or grocery store. Take this time to re-learn your new pouch and be creative on your menus. Remember as long as it is pureed or thinned & chopped really fine you can have it. 1 exception of course is "NO SUGAR." Keep asking questions. Not asking could keep you confused. Elissa

Hi Michele, Ditto to what the others have said. If I would add one thing it would be to take a pillow from home. I was so glad I did, it made my stay much more comfortable, and made the ride home nicer too. I just sort of put it on my lap and hugged it for the ride home. I would suggest bringing a patterned pillow case on it, I lost one of my good white ones when I was in the bathroom and they came to change my sheets Scared and nervous at the same time is soooo normal, boy I remember those feelings vividly. You are going to be just fine. Wow, what a Christmas present you're getting this year! yay for you! Linda
