Help Suggestions.....
Well I had my three month labs done. And the test results showed my prealbumin (protein) @ 15. It should be anywhere between 20-24. So needless to say I am lacking protein! I thought I was during well with this BUT test showed differently. I usually consume 2-3 protein shakes/drinks a day with each carrying 20-40 grams. Also my meals usually contains protein...(I have no problems eating any meats). I only snack on high protein snacks (jerky, peanuts, peanut butter, cheese, Q-smart chips). So go figure
BTW I am 48 lbs. less....Any suggestions as to how to up the protein intake???

First congrats on the weight loss. The protein could be low because you are still fairly new out of surgery and surgery takes it's toll on our protein levels. I would suggest adding a scoop of unjury to your protein shakes, that way it makes them 60 grams. I would also suggest to drink that over time and not all at once. Our body does better absorbing it slowly. I just ordered more unjury today for myself. I am right with you on this. After the last two surgeries I went from 20 to 8, so I am doing what I am suppose to do and I too will get my labs checked in 3 and 6 months. I will probably always get them checked at 6 and 12 months every year for life. You can never be too careful when it comes to your health.

Hi Shay,
Congrats on your loss thus far
hmm... I have heard also that the body only absorbs about 30 grams of protein at one sitting so maybe space the drinks out (which Im sure you do) but yeah...add some powder to stuff. Also, tuna is very high in protein and shrimp too... maybe eat up the tuna... I am curious what my protein levels are myself. Its been awhile since I had my labs done. I personally think they should check our labs a little more often for the 1st year to be on the safe side. I am 8 months out and only had them done once early out. I drink isopure in a bottle 40 grams a bottle. They are a bit expensive though. In fact gotta pick some up today at the vitamin shoppe. but they seem to work well for me. I notice the difference as soon as I am through my drink!
I wish you the best!

Hi Elizabeth,
Quick hijack here...could there be a miscommunication bgetween you and the docs office as far as getting your labs done? We aren't that far apart in our dates and mine have been run 3 times now. The third time was an extra because Brett wanted to check something out, but the other 2 were regularly scheduled. I've had a 2 week check-up..then a month at PMRI ( with labs ) then a 4 week check at the docs..then a 3 month check at PMRI and the docs with labs...and am scheduled for another doc in December for my nine month, then again at PMRI in February with more labs. That will be a total of 4 labs in the one year time frame for me. I also plan on having mine done every six months after the first year instead of yearly to hopefully avoid nip any potential problems that may arise early on. Maybe give them a call and re-do your schedule.

Hi Shay,
I think it was Rob who had this happen to him awhile ago, maybe he could shed some light on it for you. It sounds like you are eating a good protein rich diet. I wonder if there could have been an error in the lab work? Do you do red meat? Perhaps some extra beef in there. How about fish? I got some really good stuffed salmon at Trader Joe's ( frozen portion about 6 oz contained 30ish grams of protein ) Hang in there and keep doing the great job you are! Woo hooo on the loss
!!

Hi Shay,
You are doing great! I have been using Dr Wynn;s oatmeal and drinks as well as the unjury for at least 2 to 3 protein meals. They take the worry out of getting all the meals in with other foods.
All the suggestions sound great though, perhaps it will pick up in the next 3 months since you body is recoverying form surgery.
How is the Swim Club going? I am still not signed up anywhere but may do the club on 40 for the 3 month trial for $99. I don't want to sign up for 3 years and hate it!!
Well, hope to see you soon.
Keep up the great work!
