OT: Difficult Night

Last night ( Monday ) was a difficult one in my family. My sister suffered a stroke nd possible blood clot to the brain. She is now in ICU on a venitlator. We were working the high school concession stand along with her daughter, my 25 yer old niece, when she sat down in a chair and began to act strangely, at first I thought she was kidding but a few minutes later I realized something was very wrong. Got her to the ER and her BP was 253/127. 2 CT scans in 4 hours and next thing we know she is in ICU on a vent. They are thinking there may have been something happen with her heart that coused some sort of blockage to break free and cause the stroke. Her prognosis is very up in the air for the next 24 - 36 hours. There is some damage to her left side but we have no way of knowing how extensive. She has her grown daughter, a 16 year old son and a 6 year old second daughter. On a side note, this is one reason WHY I made the decision to have GPS. My sister is only 46 years old. Very overweight, a heavy smoker, BP problems for years, if you have a weight problem, please DO SOMETHING about it, surgery, diet, whatever, just do something..anything. If you smoke, throw the damn things away. yes, nothing worse than a reformed smoker, but it's how I feel. They aren't your friend. Gonna try and go back to sleep for awhile, not sure what the day will bring tomorrow. Just wanted to tell each and every one of you to take the best care you can of you and go hug your, hubby, wife, mom, kids, dog and cat because we just never know what to expect when. Linda

Linda, My thoughts and prayers are with your sister and the family. My Dad was 36 when he passed. On his death certificate it says "OBESITY, hypertension, polycythemia and diabetes." My Mom gave me a copy a couple of years ago. Thank God she did. Both my brothers were diagnosed in the last year with diabetes. I was border line diabetic with high cholesterol. We all have sleep apnea and high BP. I had WLS for the same reasons. No longer need the meds. Sleep without the c-pap. exercise 2 hrs a day. I FEEL HEALTHY. I bring my Mom to the gym with me 2 days a week. I wish my brothers would see the light and do something about their health. Continued prayers and if you need anything please call. Elissa
