Well yesterday I had to go to my first dress up event since surgery, a Wedding shower and I refused to buy anything new so I found a strech top skirt and jacket in my closet which were a size 24 I thought I looked o****il everyone kept saying you need to buy some smaller cloths, which I guess I do but I have this fear of getting rid off my bigger sizes I like my cloths big any way so I feel like I can hide in them. I stopped on the way home and got my self a new outfit for a up coming party and it was an 18 I couldn't belive it I was so happy but I still don't want to get rid of any of my old cloths did anyone else feel this way will I ever secure enough to part with my big cloths? Hi Denice, I sure had a hard time with it, but I kept hearing everyone say to get rid of the big stuff so you don't have anything to fall back on and you won't let yourself gain. Well, I had a yardsale and got rid of everything, EVERYTHING -and I regret it. Not most of it, but there were some things that I'd wish I kept. Big comfy sweatshirts, rain coats- just to name a few. It does scare me that they are all gone and what if I DO need them again?? I had zero smaller clothes, so I've had to rebuild the wardrobe from scratch, and man it is expensive! So, try not to buy many things for the first 6 months when the weight loss is the quickest, try the resale and thrift shops. After 6-8 mos when it slows down, then I'd say buy some things new. Just my opinion. I'm glad you went out and bought the new outfit though, it sure makes you feel good doesn't it? I don't think anything about this is easy, from eating to exercising to mental images and head games to what to do with clothes.. so take it a day at a time dear. Take care, T

It's hard... but neccessary. You'll soon find that you'll be going through clothes like crazy. I tried to keep my size 24s as long as possible. Then one day I was at work and my skirt started falling off! I really tried hard not to buy alot of new clothes, but I changed sizes so quickly! 3 or 4 weeks ago I bought a bunch of 18/20 shirts... now I'm in a 14/16! It's awesome to be in a 14/16 but I just spent a bunch of money on 18/20s! So I'm going to wear the 18/20s until I absolutely can't wear them anymore and then go shopping again. Girl get rid of those old clothes... you'll never need them again

I've bought some new clothes, but usually only when I find them on clearance. I've gotten most of my 'smaller' clothes on Ebay. Talk about some great deals, WOW !! My best deal was three pairs of dress pants for $15, including shipping !! But there are some things that I will only buy new, like shoes, socks, and underwear. Ken

Hi Denice, I'm a little different ( lol aren't I always? ) I couldn't wait to ditch the clothes in my closet. I love clothes and love to shop. It killed me not being able to find things I wanted in my size, and I refused to spend a gazillion bucks in a specialty store for large sized women, so I basically gave up wearing anything nice or even remotely fashionable for a long time. I found that buying on clearance and buying a season ahead ( anticipating weight loss ) helps me have clothes I can wear now, plus saved me a ton of money. I got many compliments on a jacket I was wearing at the last PMRI meeting. Got it at Boscovs...on a clearance rack last summer...when it was still too small. Now the correct season is here and it fits and I'm only out 12 bucks for what was originally a 50 dollar jacket. Cruise those clearance racks if you can, go ahead and buy a bit small if you feel comfortable with that, stick em in the back of the closet and enjoy yourself when the time comes to wear them!. I'm not shy or squeamish about resale either, got a great wool blazer in Goodwill for 3 bucks. I know you're nervous about letting that old part of yourself go, it's hard sometimes...but let yourself FLY!! You are going to be a huge success! Linda

Denice, (and everyone else that has posted on this topic so far), Funny you should be saying this!!!! I am thinking the exact same thing and as you know we are only a couple days apart on our surgery. By my scale, I have "unofficially" lost 50 pounds. BUT I am still wearing my same clothes! I feel absolutely no different (other than they are "a little bit baggy") and I am getting depressed over it! I wonder if it's because my "outfit" is stretchy pants and big tees? I keep passing the clearance racks and the consignment shops etc and wonder....I'm ready to trade in some of these clothes but it DOESN'T seem like I have to?!? Am I just being weird???? I got bloodwork done yesterday and will be seeing the nutritionist, the surgeon, and program doc at PMRI in the next week and a half. I will be anxious to see what the REAL DEAL is!
