Blood work great - B12 elevated
Hi Everyone,
I hope all is going well with pre ops as well as post ops. I have a question for anyone who can answer. I finally had blood work done after my 3 months. I got the results today and was advised that my B12 is elevated. I currently take sublinqual B12. It's a brand I got out of Wal Mart made by Rexell and it has 2500 mcg. I take one every other day. I was advised that I should cut it back to 2x's a week. Could this hurt me? I thought that the body would empty whatever it didn't need. Lemme know what you think. Thanks ~Shelly
Shelly,
Did the doc tell you to cut back? If so, I would definitely listen to his/her advice. I have been taking 1000mg a day at most, every other day at the very least, as it was my understanding that B-12 can not build up in us, only pass through. Was not aware of problems (if any) an elevated B-12 level could cause. Would love to hear what you find out. I think there are a few of us taking 1000 a day from Trader Joes. It would be really good to know of any potential problems. My concern thus far has been not getting enough, not too much. We know what can happen if we don't get enough!!!
Hugs,
Tammy
Tammy, I will investigate more and let you know what I find out. This came from my PCP. Copies of my blood work were sent to the PCP and my surgeon. I guess I was worried about the whole nervous system, which is why I was taking it. I have placed a call into the surgeon to see what he says. I will let you know. ~Shelly
Hey Shelly,
That does seem like a little much, and just to be sure I think 2x a week is probably best until you can get a definite answer from the surgeon. Also, thanks for the tip on where to get the B12's, I was getting the 1000's from GNC and taking them 3 times a week. However, I much rather take the 2500's and take them 2x a week or maybe even once a week if the surgeon says that's all I need.
Hi Shelly,
My level is always really elevated too, I remember being told by PMRI nutritionists that the body just dumps whatever it doesn't use. The reports come back flagged because any result out of the range they consider to be a norm is highlighted. As I said, mine has come back elevated since surgery but I wasn't told to cut back, never asked the surgeon, so I'm interested to hear the response you get. I use the Trader Joe's Sublingual with folic acid. Hope all is well with you.
Linda
