I got my surgery date scheduled for 11/30/04. My dilema is I have a trip booked for 12/17/04 to New York City for 2 days. Do you think I will still be able to go? It's nothing strenous, just sightseeing. What does everyone think. Thanks, Michele

Hi Michele, That would put you home from the hosp Dec. 2 barring any complications ( I hope there are none, but felt it worthy of a mention ) your 2 week post check around the 13th. You may have issues that early on with tiring easily, some do, some don't. i was fortunate and didn't have the fatigue that others dealt with. You will be on puree then so take that into account also as to how you will handle your food...also potential bathroom issues might arise, take those into consideration too...such as maybe eating something that doesn't agree and dealing with a potential dumping episode..altho in midtown Manhattan who would notice . For me personally, I would reschedule simply because of being so newly post-op and being farther away from home than I'd like should a problem arise. Is it something that you have already booked and paid for, or something that could be rearranged easily? Talk to the docs about it and see what they suggest. You might be just fine for the trip. I tended to err on the side of caution my first month out. Linda

Hi Michele, I can relate to your situation. I had my "original" date scheduled for July 21st, but i had to reschedule because shortly after that, i went to settlement on a home and i also had my vacation on the heels of settlement, so i called and rescheduled. My new date was only a month later on August 25. I was able to get my personal things in, plus i am now 7 weeks post op and feel terrific! It is a personal choice. If you want to take the chance and go to NYC, go for it, or if you want to play it safe, then reschedule. Linda made some good points about fatigue and getting tired, but as she said, maybe you should talk with the docs and get their input!! Good Luck! -Joe-

Thanks LB and Joe. The trip is already booked and paid for. If I tire I will be able to go back to the hotel room to rest so that won't be a problem. Never thought about the bathroom issues, though, but your right LB in NYC who would notice. Plus I plan on having my meals prepared to take with me. I do have a call in to Misty to ask some other questions, maybe I'll just run it by her. Thanks again. Michele
