I'm home from the hospital
I got home from the hospital last night. Surgery went fine, but I ran a temperature for 3 days... I am having major problems trying to drink my water... I was a big water drinker before surgery, but now it seems to give me a "full" feeling... Really hurts and I'm being careful to take little sips... Might have been because of the straw they gave me... Anyway, water is a problem but I'm focusing on it so I don't dehydrate.
Food is another problem, I cannot seem to eat a whole ounce... Makes me laugh hysterically, used to eat pounds not ounces... LOL I try to concentrate on the protein, but MEAT is a real turn off right now... Just don't like the thought of it...
Pain is something I was expecting, but I was surprised by just how much it really hurts... I've had major surgery before and don't remember this much pain... I'm sure it will fade from my memory and be worth it in the end... (already feeling better and can get around quite well...)
I will be checking in every day as I'll be off from work for a while... so keep the good info coming... I rely on you guys a lot...
Thanks
Hi Pamela,
lol it is kind of funny when you make comparisons of our lifestyles for "Then and Now" We had different doctors and open vs. lap, so our recovery experiences are completely different, but the other changes I surely can relate to.
Water really bothered me in the beginning and gave me a dull, very uncomfortable pouch ache. Warm decaf tea was a real lifesaver for me. Crystal light flavored things also went down much better than plain water. You might want to give those things a try and see if it helps with your liquid intake. Try adding a little unflavored unjury powder to your crystal light. It's also good when stirred into some sugar free hot chocolate, that will do double duty as far as protein and liquids. I order online from their website www.unjury.com, their service is excellant and delivery is VERY fast. If I order before 11 am my order is usually here in the next days mail.
As far as foods go, each day you will be feeling better and that will get easier. Take a deep breath, relax and focus on basic healing and getting your liquids in each day, and the rest will come with time.
