Checking into surgery in Millsboro
I have just started checking into surgery and really don't know where to start. I go to Dr. Saberi for my diabetis and tyroid problems and he has recommended a Dr. out of state. I'm sure there is one locally and would love to here from anyone in the Rehobeth/Millsboro area. Hope to see all lighter. Joanne
Hello and Welcome Joanne!
I don't have any information you are requesting, I go to docs upstate. But we do have a lot of people on this board who go to the docs downstate. As soon as they see your post perhaps they will be able to help you out with the information on the docs in your area - recommendations for a local surgeon and etc.
BTW - I feel one of the best first steps is doing exactly what you did ... post to a good message board to start in your research for a physician and research the surgery you are considering. Read, read and then read some more. There are many stories in the profiles of the members around here. If you have any specific questions, please don't hesitate to ask them. Likely someone will happen along that can help you out.
Again, welcome aboard. This message board is truly one of the great ones!!!

Tammy, Thank you so much for answering my posting. I am really looking forward to hearing from people in my area. After your reply I really feel there is hope and I have come to the right place for the support I need. I have looked at your profile and you should feel so proud of yourself. I hope someday I will have a profile similar and can reach out and help someone the way you have done today. I have been reading alot on the surgery and learning more everyday. See you lighter. Joanne
i went to dr michael sofronski in salisbury md he has the delmarva bariatric center and uses prmc in salisbury. he is great and has a great after care program several people from your area have used him also. we have support group meetings every thursday evening and first and third saturday of each month and you leave the hospital with his home phone number if you need to call him.i cant say enough good things about him.
Robert, Thank you for replying. Do you have to already have the surgery to attend support groups? I go to my primary care Dr. on Monday. I am hoping he will give me guidedance and get me started in the right direction. If not I will call my heart Dr. for advice since he recommended the surgery about a year ago. I was against it then but have since changed my mine. Any sujestions ! Please feel free to advice. I need all the help and support I can get and hopefully can return help to someone else in the near future. Hope to see all lighter. Joanne
Welcome Joanne. Dr. Milller in Seaford has a great reputation with Gastric Bypass. He does the open procedure. I live in northern Delaware so I goto Dr. Irgau. This office does Laproscopy with the right to do open surgery if deemed necessary. Good luck in your quest for information. This is the place to come for support. Reading profiles will encourage and scare you. This is not an easy choice, but I for one am glad I've chosen this journey. Down 120 lbs since Jan 26th. BP & cholesterol also down to the normal range. I feel healthy for the 1st time in years. Elissa
Elissa. Congradulations on your healthy journey. That is what I am looking forward to. I am scared but feel very strongly about getting this done. I look at all the medical problems in my family from obsity and that scares me more then having the surgery. I have talked to several people I know who has had the surgery and all are happy and would do it again. Unforuneitly none live near me. I feel like I am making this decision to better my health and to start to live at 50. I feel life has only just begun and I need to get out of this jail fat has caused me to be in and begin to live a real life. Hope to see you lighter. Joanne
Hey Joanne -
I just got home from a visit in Millsboro tonight! I know Dr Miller's group has a decent rep in Seaford. I also know several people who have come from downstate to our Dr's here (see post prior to yours as example).
However, whomever you choose, as long as you are comfortable is the best way to go. It never hurts to 'interview' more than 1 office.
Welcome aboard and let us know if you have any questions!
