Comment & Question about alcohol
Hello everyone.......I am counting down. My birthday is fast approaching. October 20th. Getting a little nervous and having all sorts of dreams. Please, Please, everyone keep my in your prayers.
NOW....my question is. I do go out and I do drink Alize which I know I will have to give up. It won't be hard because I have only been drinking it for about 3 months. I had been drinking gin prior to that. I know alcohol is going to be a
or very limited. BUT I was out last weekend and I saw a female that I know who had the WLS and girlfriend was drinking Tangeray & OJ and had more than 1. My friend is a barmaid there and she said that same girl was there the night before and was back the next day during the day. I also saw another sister who had the WLS and she was drinking a beer and had rum & coke.
Any comments or thoughts out there
I have no

Hi MotherLove,
I drank socially in my younger years ( am 42 now ) and really only had the occasional glass of wine in recent years. I haven't had a drink in probably 2 or 3 years now. I don't plan on having any because 1. The docs office has said not to and I have NO intention of potentially hurting myself, and 2.It's not a part of my life where I feel pressure to order something, I simply choose not to and let those around me do what they will.
I know a woman who had surgery a few years ago ( different docs ) and she has a serious alcohol problem. I have met people who their doctors tell them they can, I have met people who simply don't care what their docs recommend and do it anyway. I didn't come this far to give myself a whole other set of problems. Sounds like your friends are choosing another path. It's up to you to choose what's right for you.
Good luck to you,
Linda

Hi MotherLove,
In my much younger days, I was known as Mr. 151. Needless to say, I concur with Linda and part of my decision to have the surgery was a pact to observe the rules set out by my surgeons. I would hate to have a successful weight plan ruined by having to have a kidney or liver replacement. People will be people and have to make their own journey, but need to be responsible for their consequences also. Personally I think there is no need for all you "foxy" sisters (sorry for the politically incorrect statement) to need to drink, since now you can get out there and shake things up.

MotherLove,
I am 2 1/2 years post op. I am a social drinker which to me means I drink on special occasions. I have not had any problems with alcohol yet. I drink Absolute and Cranberry. I can say I have to drink alot slower then I used to and a lot less also. This is fine though my husband says I am a cheap date. I know everyone is different and your body may react differently than mine. We all have our weaknesses some will try to eat cakes or candy and pay (been there done that) or some will stick to the rules and follow their diets. When I had my surgery I said I was going to change my life completly and stick to a very strict diet. I found its not that hard to change my eating habits but I have also found that I am human and even I need to splurge every now and then. I have lost 140 lbs in the past 2 1/2 years and havent gained a pound back so I hope I am doing something right. I am loving life. Still making mistakes when it comes to my eating habits but I pay for them and move on. I say if you want to try to have a drink go for it you are the only one who will pay for it in the end so only you can decide if it is worth it.
