Did anyone do a Living Will before surgery?
Hi!
I'm probably being way too morbid but I went ahead and did a Living Will (Advance Healthcare Directive), a Last Will and Testament, letters to my loved ones (nothing that I haven't said to them a thousand times and an outline of my funeral arrangements.
Initially I thought that I might "jinx" myself with all of these somber preparations. Then I realized that some of this stuff I should have done even if I wasn't planning on having surgery. As it turns out, both my husband and my Mom were motivated to go through the process of putting their wishes in writing as well. That made me feel better.
With a surgery date in front of me, I keep wrestling with all of the "what ifs". One moment, I'll feel confident that everything will be OK and the next minute I want to find a Fortune Teller and take a look in her crystal ball. At least one thing is clear, remaining this weight (or growing larger) is NOT an option so these fears will just have to step aside while I get my life back!
Cassandra, I did a Living Will and updated my Will as well. This is not morbid, it's a fact of life. Everything you are worried about is the same as all the rest of us. The unfortunate thing is you have too much time to worry about everything. The closer iyou get, the calmer you will feel. Have trust and faith in your decision and the Doctor's. Try to stay positive & focused. Course it doesn't hurt to say an extra prayer or two. God will provide. Elissa
Not morbid at all - smart. You are taking a chance, be it ever so small even, when you have any operation. You need to make your wishes known now in case fro some reason you are unable to in the future after the surgery. To not think of that is chosing to live in the dark - which is fine if that is what you want to do but facing it directly is not morbid. I did a living will too and would do it again. Good for you for thinking abotu such things.
