Hi...Readers! Allow me to introduce myself. I am a single female age 49~no kids~I stand 5'11 and weigh 430 lbs with a BMI of 53.00....tell me I don't qualify...lol.. I have a degree in Music and I want to stand and sing again...I'm a Gospel Music Artist as well as a Corporate Professional with an expertise in the area of Federal Student Loans and City PropertyTaxes. Working in those fields for over 20yrs before becoming more ill with a degenerative spine disease etc..... I'm not from Philly, but, have been residing here for several years and the surgeons here in Philly are not too easy to deal with etc....enough of that. Should anyone be able to give me recommendations for surgeons who are performing the gastric bypass in the Delaware area I would gladly appprecatiate your kindness as well as your recommendation. I will have some travel problems, but, I'll work it out in that I do not drive nor do I have a automobile, but, God can make a way! I've heard such good responses from those persons who have had the surgery done by surgeons in the Delaware area. Should the surgeon have offices in Philly and Delaware or affiliated with a hospital in Delaware as well Philly wouldn't that be a blessing! To all who are on this journey thanks for being there!.... Bless You!...Peaceful Blessings to All...Congratulations!

Welcome Pamela. My Dr is Dr. Irgau, who has a practice near Christiana Hospital. 537 Stanton-Christiana Rd. Suite 102, Newark, De 19713. 302-892-9900. Dr. Irgau & Dr. Wynn were both present for my operation on January 26th, this year. Dr. Peter's is their newest addition to the practice. Brett Gordon is their Physicians's Assistant and is very involved as well. The whole team is excellant. Laproscopy is their preferred procedure, however they reserve the right to do it open if necessary. There are many appointments necessary to get clearances and be approved for the surgery. Pulminologist, Cardiologist, Nutritionist & Phyciatrist. Sleep study & EGD might also be required. In Delaware a Life Skill class is also required. The whole process could take as long as 1 year or as little as 6 months. Good luck on your journey. If you have any other questions, please ask. One of us will have an answer or just an opinion. Hi Pamela! Welcome! I can certainly say that you've come to the right place! I am still pre-op with an upcoming surgery date of October 26th. My doctor is Dr. Irgau of CHRIAS (Christiana Institute of Advanced Surgery). He practices with Dr. Gail Wynn and Dr. Peters in Newark, DE (near Christiana Hospital). They can be reached at 302-892-9900. As a new patient, the wait for that first consultation can be a LONG one. I think it took me 9 months to get in. Once you're in, they become much more available to you. Dr. Irgau is doing Lap GBP on me. He came highly recommended and has a wonderful personality. A friend of mine had her surgery in Philly and is no longer on this earth. Trust me. I took that very seriously. Even though I live in Chester, PA, I decided to use a doctor in DE because of his credentials, experience and the support programs that he has in place. Be prepared to come to DE for more than just seeing the doctor. CHRIAS sends its patients to a Gastric Bypass Life Skills class (12 weeks, meets every other week) at PMRI in Wilmington. I believe they have made this class mandatory so you'll need to be able to get to it. You'll also want to attend the PMRI GBP Support Group meetings. You'll get to hear from post-ops and pre-ops and it's a great way to meet people and learn about the GBP experience. Take care! Cassandra

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me and also for being quite understanding as well as informative. I must admit this would be a struggle for me, in that I have no transportation, but, God will and can supply all of your needs. Of course thats a faith statement to say the least. I need and want this surgery so badly, I need to go back to work and most of all I miss my gospel singing and ministering etc... Allow me to apologize for the delayed response. It's been a little, if not somewhat depressing as I pursue finding a physician to have this surgery, but I'm holding on..... Thank You so much......Peaceful Blessings to You and much Luck in your endeavors! I'll keep you posted.....

Hi Pamela and welcome, My surgeon is Dr. Irgau...Dr. Wynn was there too. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Peters yet. I live in Maryland, just over the line from Delaware and am really close to Christiana. I could have gone to various places in Baltimore including Johns Hopkins, less than an hour away and known world wide, however I chose Dr's Irgau and Wynn because I feel they are the absolute BEST at what they do. I had to wait 6 months to get my initial consultation but it was sooo worth it. At my pre-op visit when we were going over everything before surgery I had a lots of last minute questions and things I needed to get square in my own mind, at the end of the visit Dr. Irgau held my hand, looked at me and said you are going to do very well. BOY, talk about a peaceful feeling. I knew I was going to do my part and he was going to do his and by the grace of whatever supreme being you believe in, it was all going to be ok. The morning of surgery I cried all the way to the hospital, scared silly. I saw the good doc again before we went to the OR and once again knew it was going to be ok. I know there are many choices out there for surgeons and many of them are wonderful. I am so glad I went where I did and can't say enough good things about them. Good luck in whatever you choose and I hope to welcome you to the losers society soon! Linda

Hi...Linda...... Thank you so much for the recommendation. I seem to hear such wonderful recommendations concerning these doctors, that I feel as though I know them already. It's without a doubt that I will face some adversity in that I don't drive and are disabled presently, with no car, but I will trust God to make a way. Thanks again and should I be scheduled for an appointment, I will definitely let all you good and wonderful people know the outcome..
