2 years post-op on 9/11
Wow! Time sure does fly! I can't believe it's been 2 years since my surgery. It was a rough start but I would certainly do it again in a heartbeat! I started out at 270 lbs and now weigh in at 146 lbs. I've lost a total of 124 lbs. I lost 100 lbs in the first 9 months. I haven't lost any more weight since Feb 04 which was exactly 1 1/2 yers after surgery... So like they say... the first 18 months is where you seem to lose your weight. I've maintained my current weight level since then. I did have a lot of complications in the beginning, almost chickened out the night before surgery and asked myself a million times what in the world did I do to myself. But, as all my bypass buddies told me... hang in there it will get better each day. And sure enough, it did! My life has certainly changed too. My family is very proud of me (even those who were dead set against me having the surgery). I started a local support group in Smyrna last January and it keeps growing each month. I'm so happy that I'm able to help someone out in need. I'm going to do Bike to the Bay in a couple weeks. I'm very determined to get on my bike and ride not only for MS but for the personal satisfaction. Who would have ever thought I'd right my bike 80 miles... in one day!!! Wouldn't it be great if we could have our own "Gastric Bypass " team ride together next year? I know Rob would join me...
I would like to thank all the friends that I have made along the way thru my weight loss journey. Without you I would have never made it thru the first six months. I definetely needed the support. I just wish that more long term post-ops would keep in touch to help answer the questions and fears of those that are just in the beginning of looking into the surgery. I made myself a promise to always keep in touch with those here at Obesity Help and those in my community.
Thank you all.... you're are such a wonderful group of people!!

Congratulations on your two year anniversary. You have really done great and your picture in the News Journal with your kids was a classic. I look forward to seeing you on October 2nd at the MS Bike to the Bay. Look for me, I'll be the formerly fatman now masquerading as a bike rider. I would love to be a team member on a GSB or OH team bike team for next year.
I also would ask for your continued communication from the long term post-ops, since you are not only an inspiration to all of us, but help us to avoid many of the booby traps and land mines that we encounter on this journey.
Keep up the good work and start your legs a' pedaling.
Rob
