DENTAL WOES

Hi everyone, Today was my first trip to the dentist since my surgery. My teeth and gums were a mess and my dentist attributed it part to my surgery. Did anyone else find this true? It wasn't staining from iron (like I thought it might be). My gums were overly inflamed (supposedly from all the chewables, sublinguals, liquid meds, surgery, anesthesia, etc.) and my back teeth were damaged by acid (the kind you get from vomiting, reflux, gas). All in all, I was dissapointed. But I will do what I can to get these teeth/gums back on track! ALSO, for any of you who might experience vomiting (like I have) I was told brushing your teeth right after vomiting was a NO-NO! Apparently it rubs the acids into your teeth and is VERY damaging. I WAS BRUSHING! Instead you should rinse well with water. Hope it helps. KIT

Ms Kitty - So sorry to hear this. Hopefully, they've given you a few other hints to help out? I can already feel the plaque building up (I'm trying to floss religiously). I've been sure it's due to taking so many chewables, etc. Best of luck with your teeth/gums! Valerie

Hi Kit! Thanks for sharing your experiences with the rest of us. Of all the things I've been thinking about, my teeth were not on the list. Actually, I thought my teeth would be in better shape post-op since I won't be drowning them in ice cream and candy bars anymore. Oh well. At least I know now that a dental check-up is another appointment that I should make post-op. Thanks for the info!
