Wish we had support in lower Delaware!

Hi everyone! Boy I am so jealious of all of you in Northern DE. You all seem so close and supportive. Your meetings sound so interesting as well. I haven't been to the monthly support group here in the Dover area for a couple months now because of the lack of support for post-op patients. I would love to have the opportunity to get together with others who have had surgery. At my last visit at Dr. Miller's office with the nurse I expressed my concern with the lack of support for post-ops, especially those of us who are over a year out, but as far as I know nothing has changed. I read the message board on a daily basis and have learned so much from just reading your posts, but I sure wish you all were closer. Freida

Hi Freida, Not sure how far you are from Smyrna but Ginger Barkley has a group that meets regularly there...at least she did last I heard. You of course would be welcome at PMRI too, just thinking it may be a bit of a hike for you to come up as far as Wilmington. Either place I'm sure you will find a good group of people. If traveling a bit isn't an option for you, have you ever thought of starting your own group? I think there can never be too many support groups, the more the better! Perhaps ther are other patients from your area who are disappointed with the level of support they are getting. I have to agree, even though I am still pre-op and waiting for my 2nd appt with Dr. Miller. I kinda feel out of the loop. However this is a great place to come to and all my questions are always answered. Teresa

Dr. Millers patients (Changing Lives) runs a Support Group meeting up here as well. It's held the 3rd Thursday of every month. It's located @ the V.A. hospital--6:30. The group leader is Jane Walker...maybe you can talk with here for more information.

I know where your at Fredia, I live in Milford and chose to have my surgery done by Dr. Wynn up North. But I knew I wouldn't be able to make the 85 mile trip for the extra support meetings with my other doctor appointments. Tom

You all are always welcome to our support groups in Northern Delaware-anytime. What about getting a car pool going so you could drive up for the Saturday meetings-at least. Make a day out of it. You could hit Trader Joes or Vitamin Shoppee after wards and then do lunch. What do you think. We believe the more the marrier! Nicki

Welcome all lower Delaware fellow gb folks! You are more than welcomed to come up for our meetings. I know it is a little far to go. I wanted to add that Brendon, the guy *****cently posted from Rehoboth about having had his surgery, had once asked about a meeting in Bethany Beach. You may want to email him. I've been going downstate all my life to the beaches and it's funny to hear about lower Delawarians wishing they had what us northerners have, lol! Hope to see you all at a meeting sometime. (((HUGS))) I am so sorry that you all are having trouble with a support group. I sure hope some of the ideas in the prior posts will work for you ... but while you are working on it .... please, please at least join in on the on-line group here in DE. I know that being face to face is the best option ... but the on-line group runs a close second. At least it will give you contact with others who have been through it, or at the very least has some understanding because they too have had the surgery or are having the surgery. I know it is not perfect, but at least it is something ... and I think I can speak for everyone around here on this one ... would love to have you all join in and post away!!! Hugs, Tammy

Freida and everyone down in lower DE... First of all, hello! :wave I second all the posts here, especially Tammy and Nicki's. We would absolutley LOVE for you guys to be able to come up for the meetings...the car pool idea is GREAT! But if you can't, pls continue to post online. We love hearing from you and support is not only given in person, but tons of sharing and love is sent thru the computer modem!! (((hugs))) -Karen
