I'm home and doing well
Hello everyone I am home and doing very well. I feel pretty good. I am 15 days post op. As of my 10 day appt. I had lost 18 pounds. The only problem I seem to be having is that I feel weak, not tired, just weak and like my blood sugar is low. Has anyone else felt like this? I think I am getting enough food and I am taking my protein. Is this normal? Maybe my body just needs time to adjust to my new way of eating. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks for the support.
Brendon
Hi Brendon,
A few thoughts...I see by your profile you had Dr. Miller so your procedure was open, open takes alot more recovery time than lap. I know after having 2 c-sections the recovery was long and I was tired ALOT. Not so much after my RNY tho due to it being lap.
Are you diabetic and if so are you still on meds and checking your sugar on a regular basis? This can take some time to regulate if that's the case.
What kind of vitamin regimen are you on? Are you taking B-12? What about your iron requirements, both of those things can cause fatigue if you're low in those areas.
What about fluids? Being in even a mild state of dehydration can cause fatigue, make sure you're getting enough fluids in. Other than that I woiuld keep a check on it and as always contact your surgeon if you feel something isn't right or have a concern.
Hope this finds you feeling better soon!

Congrats! Glad to hear you are doing well. Our doc's tell us that after the first two weeks that the "honeymoon period" is over and fatigue sets in. I believe it is our bodies adjusting to the small quantities that we are putting in it. Also like Linda said above, make sure you are not dehydrated. Sounds like you are doing fine, but check with your doc to be sure.

Hi Brendon,
Congrats on your surgery and 18# loss! My first thought on your post was blood pressure... do you have/had high BP? On meds? If so, keep a check on it, I was very weak and dizzy and they found my BP was low enough without the meds.. even after losing just 20#! Like I said.. I was very dizzy and weak for at least 4-5 weeks, so keep up your fluids, rest whenever your body tells you to, and follow doc's orders. Good luck!
Hi Brendon,
Sounds like you are about where you should be. I would heed the advice of everyone above. I had RNY on 7/19. This is my 5th week out. I felt very weak and learned 2 things: I was dehydrated and wound up being readmitted for fluids and also my BP was low and I did not need the meds after my 3rd week! I thought that eating the few meals and taking in about 2 - - 8oz of water was enough but the fluids are VERY important. Even if you can't eat - - drink!
Good luck on your journey and also don't deny yourself a good ol nap in the afternoon. Until someone here said it was OK I was not giving myself permission -- still in the ol work mode.
Best of luck to you!
