Clothing Saga! :eyes:
I am almost 4 months post -op and down 50 lbs, and decided to clean out my closet one more time. I now have an entire guest room full of business suits, evening wear, skirts, slacks, blouses, winter sweaters, dress sweaters, pullovers, casual clothes, shorts, etc. sizes 18/20, 1X and 2X that are huge on me. Most items I only wore a couple of times, and many still have price tags on them. What's left in my closet that I can wear is practically nothing, and I actually wound up keeping a few large things just to see if I can make it through the warm weather without having to purchase clothing. What's making this more complicated for me is that I travel frequently for work, and I need to dress professionally; but I just can't afford to spend money on clothing I'll only wear for a couple of months. Clothing is one area that gets very expensive after surgery!
Is there interest among the members of the message board to set up another clothing exchange? I'm basically into size 16 almost 14, and wearing XL/L blouses and pullovers.
Alternatively, has anyone used consignment shops? There're only a couple of good ones in DE, but I'm willing to go to MD, PA or NJ if need be.
Any other ideas would be welcome!
Liana
Hi Liana,
I am just starting out and I know I won't be able to wear my suits this winter (size 22 and 24). I was planning on donating some to the YWCA for the dress for success program and then use the consignment shops. Which ones do you use that are good? I had heard there is one in Pike Creek and one on Philadel. Pike (Saks Thrift Avenue that are nice).
I'd be interested in hearing more about the clothing exchange also.
Take care,
Terre
First of all...congrats on u'r success so far! That's wonderful!!
Second, there are a number of things you could do with your clothes. You can do the consignment thing, since it sounds like the majority of u'r clothes might be expensive professional items. OR you can donate them to OB Help's clothing exchange. OR you can donate them to your local Goodwill, whom a lot of us frequent during our transformations.
Wherever they go, I'm sure someone will benefit. And continued success with your journey!!
(((hugs)))
-Karen
