Reclining Chair Question

Question: Is this recommended for all WLS patients or for those who had open surgery? Your thoughts? MotherLove

I had laproscopic and did better in bed curled up then in my recliner. I think everyone is different. Kathleen

It definately depends on the person. Have you had any other previous surgeries to compare to? I need a recliner for about 2 weeks after my laperscopic WLS becasue my ribs hurt so much when trying to lay back or sit up from a flat position. But then I also found the recliner more comfortable when I had my c-sections too. But, I've read pleanty of stories about how people were so thankful to come home & get into their own bed. My "bed" was the last thing I wanted to see.

Thank you. Yes, I have had several other surgeries including ones where I had to have my feet elevated while sleeping. I stacked pillows to do that. I do not have a recliner and guess I could rent one for a month or so. Like you said I guess the bottom line depends on what is comforatble for me. You have given me something to think about. I really appreciate your response.

Mother Love, I slept in my bed with pillows propped all around me to keep me from rolling on the drain site side. I love my own bed. I did sit in a recliner during the day. But at bedtime I wanted to be in a prone position. It is just a matter of preference and whatever makes you comfortable. Elissa

Thanks Elissa, I will take what you and Kathy V have said into deep thought. It kinds of sounds like I am going to need one for daytime if anything. I love to watch TV so this may be the route for me to take and do the pillow thing at night. Now....I just have to figure out where I am going to put it ....(a minor concern eh?) Guess I will have to my living room furniture around. Tks, MotherLove

Didn't anyone tell you that you won't be watching TV after surgery. With the added energy you get, you'll be bouncing off the wall. Rob

Rob's right, I used to sit on my recliner and aimlessly watch TV for hours. Now I am either exercising, on My PC or out and about doing something. I rarely sit and watch the BOOB tube anymore. Funny I hadn't thought of it til you mentioned it Rob. So Mother Love, don't go out and buy a recliner unless you need an extra piece of furniture. Borrow one for a month if you think you have to have one. LOL. Save your money for smaller size clothes. You'll need them more. ((HUGS)) Elissa
