Any regrets or severe complications?

Cassandra I had surgery on Tues and I am fine. I, too, was worried simple beforehand but I had researched and read about a thousand profiles. I read the regrets on this website, etc. All I can say is everyone is different. I'm doing everything the surgeon said to do by following instructions to the letter. I feel so good, in fact, that I'm wondering if they really did the surgery (just kidding). Surely, there are a lot of things that could go wrong as in any surgery-just know this and continue to decide what is best for you. Also, there are a lot of times that I read where a person has complications but when you dig a little deeper you see the patient hasn't been as compliant as necessary for this life changing surgery. These are all good points you make and a great forum to raise them is in the gastric bypass lifeskills class, I also took that class. They will feel that you are a risk, they will see that you wish to be well informed and make this process work for you. Good luck.

Hi Cassandra, How are you? We share the same hometown I dont have any regrets at all so far. It is a bit harder than I thought it would be. You can definitely gain back the weight. You still have the struggles and Head issues that you did before weight loss surgery, but they aren't as severe. Those chips go down sooo easy. I have been dizzy lately but that can be because my monthly cycle has been very off. Got my monthly 3 times this past month!!! But aside from that you hit plateaus and dont loose. You go up and down a few pounds and then start to loose again. The 1st month is very hard becuase your body is healing. The second month is hard as well but you are starting to acclimate to the changes. I would do this over in a heartbeat! Of course there are some people who have side effects. Unfortunately. Everyone is different and has different toleration levels. Dr. Wynn and Dr. Iragau are such wonderful surgeons I had complete faith in their abilities. In my opinion they are the best there is!!! I would (and did) read the memorials on this web site and all the profiles and links regarding what could go wrong. It is always good to be absolutely SURE this is what you want for yourself. I wish you all the best in life. God Bless you on your journey! Elizabeth M

I had several complications... and felt like crap for the first 6 months. But if I had to do it all over again... I would in a heartbeat! Where they re-attached my intestine to the "new" stomach it swelled shut and kept filling with fluids. I had to wear a drainage bag (tube from the stomach that drained into a bag outside) for 10 weeks. Then I developed an ulcer in the new stomach. About a month after my surgery I then had to have my stoma dialted... then a second time about another month after that. I could never tolerate the protein. Needless to say I lost just about all my hair. Now I get all my protein in from the foods that I eat each day. Everyone told me to hang in there and that it would get better.... and it did! Slowly but surely!

I had 2 strictures in the 1st 2 months after surgery. When I was 7 months out and 5 months pregnant I had to have surgery to fix an intestinal hernia which made me violently ill & have my gall bladder out (it was already bad before wls). Only you know what is right for you but I'd do it again in a second.
