Hello Friends!
Hi everyone, It was a rough and bumpy road for me the first several days. I was readmitted to the hospital on Monday, July, 26 and discharged on Thursday the 29th. I was severely dehydrated and everything was off! I was also feeling a pain in my side which they checked out by CT and bariums swallow, but allwas well inside - no leaks, thank God. I am back on pureed food and finding it hard to come up with things that are palpable for me. I met with Julie at PMRI and she gave me some wonderful tips and pointers. I have found that seasoned shrimp pureed with a little chicken broth is yummy! I also using the Isopure variety box shakes. They have 50 gms of protein and that is 2 meals for me. I add fruit and different extracts and even peanut butter and they are not too bad. So this is day 17 for me. Is it normal to feel so weak and weary. Is it normal to sleep 8 to 10 hours a night?
I have been walking in airconditioned places until today. It was so beautiful outside.
Thanks to everyone who sent me e-mails in the hospital and ESPECIALLY SHAY. You are a dear. I owe you a phone call and will try to call soon.
Sorry for the long post. I had so much to say (this isn't the half of it!)
Peace!
Terre
Yes 8 to 10 hours of sleep is what a body needs. I thought it was great especially not to wake up every 2 hours. Gotta get in plenty of water so you keep hydrated and your kidneys working. I drink crystal lite orange & red grapefruit. I mix unflavored unjury with it. Counts as protein and water. Double your money. What was the pain from in your side. Was it where the drain site was? Glad your home. ((HUGS)) Elissa
Terre,
It is good to hear you are home and well on your road to recovery. You asked if it was normal to be weak and weary at this point. I don't know if it is normal or not, but I certainly still was at this point, and I didn't have the complication of dehydration. I know that I did feel a bit more weak and weary when I had trouble getting in enough fluids. When I was able to get my fluid numbers up a bit and was able to add a bit of "food" to my diet, I started noticing a huge difference in my energy level. At 17 days post-op, I was still taking naps during the day on top of my sleep at night. Rest is one of the things your body needs for recovery.
Please continue to rest and recuperate. And remember it does get a lot easier!!! The first month is the hardest physically.
Hugs,
Tammy
