Only 8 days and I'm already an ex-diabetic
Hi Gang,
I cannot believe that it has been 8 days since surgery and today my endocinologist took me TOTALY off all diabetic meds. He said that he approved of the surgery before but now he'll be a crusader with his patients to get them to have the surgery if it's appropriate.
I am still in shock as to the fact that for years I have been sticking myself and now it's over. I came home and cried and then thanked God for this miracle!
Next week I see Dr. Adeliki and who knows if he'll take me off some more meds. I'm just still in shock and know I can share this with you all because many of you have gone through it.
Have a great weekend.
Love, Kathleen
Cool Kathleen isn't it. My BP came down quickly. I thought I was dizzy cause I wasn't getting in much food. It was 110/40 and Dr. Irgau took me off the 2 BP meds. I was in the hospital for an EGD, that's when he caught the low BP. So be aware that things will chage rapidly. Call the doctors if you think something is out of sync. You know your body best, but they know what's best for you. ((HUGS)) Elissa
FANTASTIC NEWS!!!
I am so happy for you Kathleen!!! Every time I hear this kind of wonderful news I am still in awe how fast things change after surgery. And the best part is ... it only gets better Kathleen!!! I had the same thing with my BP meds ... was such a blessing to be off of them. Pre surgery, my resting heart rate was over a 100 bpm and I can't remember what my BP was, but it was high ... Last time I checked my BP was 100/65 and my pulse was 54 BPM. Crazy isn't it?
Sure hope you get a good report from Dr Akeliki ... be sure to let us know!!!
Hugs,
Tammy
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What wonderful news! And--- I sooo needed to hear some good news like this today. My surgery was postponed until 09 08 04 and I'm finding that with the extra time on my hands, I'm getting more nervous. I have numerous health/medical issues-- I too am a diabetic--have been sticking myself for 25 years and then found out about four years ago that I'm a type 2 not a type 1 so I was taking both pills and insulin. I had a reaction to the pills last fall and went into kidney failure. Although better, there has been some kidney damage as a result. I am so very hopeful, but not totally convinced, that I will be able to get off all my meds after surgery like the doctors say. Your news is encouraging especially today. Thanks for sharing---and good luck!!!!
Gwen,
You poor baby! It's so hard to have surgery postponed!
I too have numerous diseases minus the diabetes, of course, and am feeling a difference in ALL of them. I lost 23 pounds before the surgery partly because my lifeskills class required some loss and I just continued. The doctors said that this is helping me get rid of my problems more quickly so if you can lose a little weight before September 8 it will help big time.
Good luck, hang in there, and I'm praying for you!!
Love, Kathleen
