A "Fish" Tale or Tail (sort of!)
Well, All I can say is my angel Elissa Hart is very versatile! Yes, she's been there for me throughout my WLS journey and is a wonderful support for my upcoming surgery --- TOMORROW!
But, here's the real test of Elissa's versatility -- the fish tale! I have a small 5-gal fishtank with 5 fish in it (3 guppies, a molly and a platy). My simple hobby of about a month. Or so I thought! WELL, this AM when I was getting ready to feed the fish I noticed what I thought were "ants" floating in the water. One of my fish became a mommy overnight!
AGH, I need this less than 24 hours before my surgery?????
I had no idea what to do, never had this happen before. Well, I started calling people I thought might know what to do, and Elissa somehow made that list. And, yes, she helped! She looked in the phone book for pet stores in the area, gave me phone numbers, suggested I call around AND...I now have 5 babies in a "nursery" tank. (One of the stores Elissa found told me what to do.)
We're not sure they will survive but hey I tried. So Elissa, you are not only my WLS angel but godmother to my new aquatic additions shoudl they grow up.
So was this something to keep my mind off of upcoming surgery or what!?!
Betcha it's one of the MOST unusual you've ever heard of!
PS. I know this is a weight loss support group but if anyone has fish experience and knows what I should do next...please help. Keep in mind I am having surgery tomorrow and won't be home until Wednesday (?). I'll check back later.
Hmmmm ... I know of another "fish" story where the man was all things to all people! BUT I won't get into that here!!!*giggle*
Elissa, is simply a wonderful person ... ready to jump when needed. God has blessed her with wonderfully loving arms to offer hugs when needed, a great ear to listen, eyes and a heart to see a need and a comforting and giving spirit. Certainly a great person and very special angel to have around!!!
Kit, I am sure am excited for you ... I will be thinking of you and praying for you. Looking forward to hearing a wonderful report tomorrow.
Hugs,
Tammy
Tammy, You flatter me and you know what I love it. You, CJ , Kathy, Rob, Cynthia, Debbie & Nicki are my inspiration. I only hope I can measure up. Hopefully all my Angelettes, I've had a bunch, will enjoy helping others as I have. I can honestly say I am so happy & lucky to have found this site. I couldn't have done this without you all. Oh, by the way, Linda if you are lurking out there, I still have your container that had the wonderful shrimp salad in it and your hair gel too. Tina and I hope you will share the recipe with us. Please come back I miss your wit & humor. Patty C, where are you? I hope all is well with you. Haven't seen you or talked for awhile. You and Sandy missed the last meeting. You were both missed.
ps Angelettes so far: Kathy, Bronwyn, Claire, Karen, Ms Kit (Lisa), & Diane. Hope I didn't miss anyone. ((HUGS)) to you all. Elissa
We do what we can. I was on the phone this afternoon looking for homes for my godchildren. LOL. I tried to call but you are either on the phone with the fish stores or on your computer, I keep getting a busy signal. I'm glad you posted here so I won't have to worry about the babies for now. ((HUGS)) Elissa
ps I thought my journey was boring. NOT!!!!
Ms. Kitty -
There are special foods at most fish stores for "live bearing" fi****s very powdery. Dont overfeed them and change 20% of the water every two days or so. Do not do a full water change this may shock them, also keep your aquarium close to 80 degrees. They need to be well fed and warm just like our babies. Do you know which fish had the babies? If so it would be adviseable to remove her from the tank and medicate her with a simple stress coat...which your fish store should also carry. From my experience with guppies...the mother most always dies if you do not medicate her. With guppies you will have them multiplying constantly as long as you have both male and females in the tank. They take about two month to grow enough just to see their colors. After about a week - maybe two try some flaked food, kinda wein them off of the powder. Be sure to keep them away from larger fish until they are large enough to fend for themselves...othewise they could become dinner. I have a 150 gallon and 30 gallon...I love fish...right now I am starting to breed bettas. Take care, and now you are in my prayers. Hope I have helped!
