Everyone has given a world of advice, so here are a few additional items. Bring someone with you. Having a spouse or friend who will be going through this with you is important. Don't assume that you have to have surgery, or even that you are a candidate. Ask all the questions that you have and one additional question. Learn everything you can about the surgery prior to speaking to the surgeon. Ask about alternatives. You are on a fact finding mission. You are not commiting to anything, but you need to feel confident in your decision after discussing with the surgeons. They will not make a commitment for you. This decision is for the rest of your life. Hopefully that will be a nice and healthy life. Your friend. Rob

Excellent tips! This is what I did when I first met with my first surgeon (yes, I made appointments with a few!)...I've only met with one so far. Assume nothing, ask the questions you think are the dumbest, and rest assured the individual you're sitting with is going to be able to tell you SOME kind of answer which is better than never having asked.
