Hi Michele, Is this going to be your first visit? Even so don't let a little case of nerves stand in your way. obviously this is something you've been thinking about. You will still have plenty of time to think things over . Dr. Wynn is a great doctor, and after I talked to her I was more at ease, but being nervous is totally normal. Good Luck.....Judy

I agree, Michele. Write all your questions down and I'm sure she will answer them thoroughly. You will more than likely leave that appointment knowing what you want to do. If you cancel it, it will probably take a long, long time to get another. Either way, good luck with your journey.

Michele... You haven't even begun to see the real nerves yet! I was so emotional the night before my surgery date that I too wanted to call up the doctors and give them some lame excuse on why I couldn't have my surgery. Those thoughts are perfectly normal.... You're not alone. I just thank god that I did indeed go thru with my surgery. I'm almost 2 years out and think this was the best thing that I could have ever done for me and my family. -124 lbs 9/11/02

Michele, Good luck as you begin your journey. It's natural to be nervous but I think once you speak to the surgeon -- and have the opportunity to have your questions answered -- you'll feel better! And if you decide that surgery is the right thing for you, you better get used to nerves! Just turn to this message board or the support groups when you need a friend and you'll do fine. You'll be undergoing lots of pre-op testing which will give you time to think. You'll also learn more and more about the physical and emotional changes as your journey goes on. I think nerves are a GOOD thing. I'm one wee****il my surgery and my journey took a year. I worried - yes, no, no, yes - and I still worry! In a way I think if I WASN'T nervous, I wouldn't be taking the whole thing seriously enough. I am confident but it is a total lifestyle change,,,,that would make anyone nervous! You'll do fine. Kit

Hi Michele, I have my first appointment on August 12th. When is yours? I'm nervous too but I'm tired of trying to lose weight and failing. I've been overweight since I graduated from college,12 years ago. I used to be one of those perfect size 7's. Then the real world hit and I turned to food for every emotion. You need to remember that you only live once and I don't know about you but I'd like to enjoy this life for as long as I can. This may sound silly but I'd like to be able to walk for miles and not be out of breath. Of course, it will be great to be able to shop at The Gap again and not Lane Bryant. If our appointments are near each other we may even end up being roommates at the hospital when its time. 3 of my really good friends have had it done and they are all doing so well. Hope to hear from you soon Kym P.s. I found this website while I was researching gastric bypass on the net. I haven't figured out how to do the posts yet, only to reply to emails. From the people I've sent emails to, everyone is really supportive. I'm hoping to go to the meeting in August at PRMI so I can finally meet some of these people.

Here is my advice - DON'T CANCEL YOUR APPOINTMENT! lol - it takes too long to get in there! Now if you want to postpone it or something maybe you can contact Sue Pieffer & switch dates, her's is not for a few months lol. In all seriousness - expect some degree of nerves through the entire process. You are taking steps to change your life through a body altering surgery that is not without risk of complications. You have to be certain - by the time you are schedules fro the bypass, - that you are willing to take all of the "risks" that are associated with this type of a surgery. That can mean anything from strictures to in a very small percentage of people even death. I don't say that to be scary or dramatic, but realistic. By the time I had my bypass I felt like I was knocking on heaven's door anyway. The GREAT news is that Dr. Wynn has an awesome track record and now has hundreds of laperscopic bypasses under her belt. They have developed a total program - not just a here is your surgery, now be on your way program. The 2 doctors in the practice, Dr. Wynn & Iragau do their bypasses together - you get 2 excellent surgeons! By the time you have your surgery you will want to have reached a place of confidence in your decision. That is not to say you won't have some nerves - most of us still did even at that point. But hopefully you will have come to a place that even with the nerves you will feel confident you are making the right decision - for you. As long as I can choose her, I'll always pick Dr. Wynn as a surgeon. I trust her completely. Good luck - my computer is freaking out so I'll stop my long winded post now before I lose the whole thing - take care!

Michele, You have already received tons of great advice ... so to all of that just let me add a hug and to let you know that you are not alone. I felt exactly the same way. I finally decided that I would keep my appointment and continue to try to lose weight at the same time and continue to research the surgery. By the time my surgery date came, I was completely confident (although still somewhat a bundle of nerves) that I was making the best decision for me and my situation. I was confident that I had exhausted every means to lose weight and that my weight was slowly killing me. I was not able to lose much weight before my surgery, even knowing that I was facing surgery and possible severe complications with the surgery. When I suddenly realized this, it spoke volumes to me. Here I was facing possible death and still not able to lose weight? How whacked is that? I knew then that my weight problem was severe and I NEEDED severe intervention. So I turned to those who are best at doing what they do to help me do what I was not able to do ... regain my life and health. Of course Michele, no one can make this decision for YOU ... but know we are all here to help comfort you with whatever decision you decide is best for you. Hugs, Tammy
