Hey, It's this pesty newcomer again! My neighbor has just been referred to Dr. Wynn for the surgery due to his numerous health problems but doesn't qualify becauseof his age (58). Does anyone have contact info for a doctor in nearby Pennsylvania/Maryland/New Jersey that they would recommend? Thanks..Gwen

What about Dr Miller's group downstate? I hear nothing but good about that practice as well.

Hi Gwen, I ran into the same problem---I turn 58 on Aug. 9. According to the website for the Seaford/Nanticoke group, their maximum age is 55, but I did not call them directly. Instead I opted to go with Barix Clinics in Langhorne, PA (about 1 hr's drive from N. Wilm.). Gastric bypass is the ONLY procedure they do, so the dr's., hospital, and staff are well-versed and have done literally hundreds, if not thousands, of this surgery. You can usually get the initial consultation appointment within a reasonable (4-6 weeks) amount of time, and they soon (or perhaps already have) brought in an additional surgeon. Their maximum age is in the range of 60-64. Your friend can contact them through their main office in Michigan (1-800-282-0066) or get more info at their website: www.barixclinics.com. They also have support groups monthly which preops are encouraged to attend on the 2nd Tuesday of the month beginning at 7 pm and lasting until about 8:45 pm. The next one will be Aug. 10. These are "open forum" in structure, facilitated by one of the patient counselors. Postops also attend this meeting, so you can get their view of things, too. Email me if your friend would like directions. It's not necessary to have had your initial consult to attend---just show up. Hope this helps, Martha
