Thanks to those *****sponded for their suggestions and support. I've been having major anxiety over this so I got on the phone with Dr. Kumar first thing this morning. Seems the stress test showed a "small defect" of a "different" kind. He said that sometimes the breast tissue of large folks gets in the way and interferes with the imaging on the stress test . This makes it unable for him to determine with 100% accuarcy that there are no blockages. The only way to be sure is to do a heart cath which we tried to avoid because I have some kidney damage and the dye they use is very hard on the kidneys. I guess what I'm so ticked off about is that I first saw him in May and had the stress test where you walk on a treadmill. Because of a back problem I was unable to complete that test or get my heart rate up to a point where they needed it. I knew I failed the test the minute it happened. I called his office the very next day to request that he set up the alternative --medically induced--stress test (that we had discussed as an option if I had problems) as soon as he could because I only had ten weeks until surgery.. I had a follow up appointment with him in a month but I was hoping that I could get the second test over and done with and have the results of that test by the next appointment. But, four weeks and four messages to him went unanswered until two days before the next appointment. I talked to him on the phone and he agreed to have the second test set up.. He said someone would call me back with a date. Didn't happen. I had to go into his office for that appointment and THEN they set up the second test. Now we're only six weeks away from surgery. He told me to call over the phone and if everything was ok with the second test I didn't have to come back in--he'd fax the clearance to Dr. Wynn. I called his secretary to request a call back and she told me to hold on that she had the results right there. She read me the report which said "negative" and said I was good to go. I asked her to fax that report to Misty and she did. Two weeks later I find out that the "clearance" had never been sent. I called his office again. I was told by his secretary that it would be done the next day. Again, didn't happen. Then I get a call that the doctor wants to see me. I asked his secretary what was going on--that she had told me everything was fine so what did he need to see me for. All of a sudden she has selected memory and claims she never said those words to meand never faxed the docs to Misty.. Well, Misty does have the docs so there is no denying that. Anyway, I told Dr Kumar that we are down to the wire and I need action fast. I dont mind at all if the surgery has to be postponed ore even canceled because there is something more urgent that needs to be taken care of beforehand. What I do find very irritating and inexcusable is if the surgery has to be postponed or canceled because his office can't return a phone call and or properly advise me of what is going on. So, tomorrow morning at 10am (Thursday) I'm having the cath done. I'm a wreck because of the kidney issue but I know without the cath I can't have the surgery and without the surgery there is no hope that my kidney disease will get any better. I'm not one to ask for help but I sure could you your prayers right now. Thanks for listening!

Good luck with your heart Cath Thurs morning. Fortunately the procedure itself does not last very long at all - and right at the end you get this really cool warm sensation that washes over your entire body. The hardest part is remaining still for several hours after the procedure. I elected not to have a foley cath (for urine) during the procedure so by the time I was allowed to get up I was greatful. I think you have to stay laying down for like 3 or 4 hours or so & then come home & take it easy the rest of the day. I beleive I told my husband they said I was to stay in bed with the remote control, a magazine & a book & only get up to go to the bathroom.. lol... when you have 2 little boys you have to catch your breaks where you can. Good luck I hope everything goes okay with the dye & your kidneys. My father in law has the same problems & my grandmother has to take a medicine for a few days before getting the dye. Please post & let us know how it goes, take care.

Hey Jane, aren't you a nurse? Assuming this test goes off without a hitch is all of this (the test and then the surgery in 2 weeks) going to be too much for my heart to handle? I'm sure they wouldn't allow me to do it if it were but I guess I just need something else to worry about.

Gwen, Sorry for the anxiety your feeling at the moment. When it's getting down to the wire things can become very irritating. But please know I wish you the very best and pray all goes well for you to keep that 8/9 surgery date. Please try to relax this morning before testing Keep us posted! Shay

Gwen, Talk about a vicious circle! Hope all went well this morning---anxious to hear how you made out. It's a challenge, but I suppose we need to view these "surprises" not as obstacles, but as opportunities---in this case an opportunity to make sure you're in the best possible shape for surgery whenever it comes. Good luck! You're in my prayers. Martha
