Oh my goodness Mel!!! OUCH OUCH OUCH!!! Sure hope things get better for you real soon. I certainly understand why you would not want to go through it all over again. Your strength will improve as you are able to up your protein, fluids and food intake. I know that it took me a while to before I felt I was back up to par also. I took naps for quite a while. I was not one of those people who could have gone back to work at 2 weeks post-op. But I do know that I felt better with each day, and I sure hope you start feeling better real soon.
Hugs,
Tammy
Ha! I DEFINETLY was not one of those 'go back to work in 2-wks' people, either! He*l, I was whining at 6 that I still needed another 6...they, uh, didn't see it my way (ahem), but I did get another 2.
Mel, listen to Tammy...this too, shall pass. You will be feeling so much better in a couple of months and wonder why u didn't do it sooner!!
Keep smilin'
(((hugs)))

Sorry you are going through so much agony. I think a lot of the literature and people tell people how bad it can be, but noone wants to listen, because they assume it won't happen to them. I think people need to know there is a good possibility of staying out a minimum of eight weeks to as much as twelve weeks with this surgery. The doctors (Irgaau/Wynn) usually advise you to take as much time as you can. Your employer will obviously try to get you back as soon as possible. I was actually happy to know that my job was being shipped over to India. I had no incentive to hurry back to work. It took me awhile to gain enough energy (certainly not regain since that is one of the reasons I had the surgery) to get back to work full-time. Make sure that you have your daily meal planning and liquid intake down prior to returning. Also make sure that you have started an exercise program. Once you get back to work, you'll come up with a 100 excuses, not enough time, too busy, too tired, to many other things to do. Place your diet and exercise number on priority chart. Hopefully you'll start feeling better and will start feeling better about the surgery and the results.

It can be hard to focus on the positives when your energy is so zapped. It is important now to make sur you are getting in all of your vitamins, make sure you have enough iron in your multi or whatever you take - being even a little anemic can really compound feelings of exhaution. I know we have different doctors but perhaps you are coming up on getting some bloodwork done that may let you know if you are having any issues like anemia. Other then that, fluids are SO important at this point - 6 weeks out you are still not able to consume much of anything, your body is depleting it's energy stores - fat - very rapidly - plus it is summer time. being dehydrated is another common thing that can happen early on and make you feel 10 x more worn down.
No one may have told you you would feel as bad as you do - but remember - you are fordging your own new path, a road all your own that no one has walked down before. All of us felt exhausted along the way. For most of us, the answers were as follows - time, protein, fluids & vitamins. The time can be hard becasue each of us heals differently - at different rates. Try some of those things. And remember - you just had a humungous surgey - and now having all your teeth removed - well that is another stress to your body & it's system that is going to require time. Do what you can to take it easy & rest as often as you need to. See about going back to work 1/2 days for one or two weeks before plunging back in full time. - Water - Protein - Vitamins.
Good luck, Mel!
