Nov. is too far away!!!!
Hi everyone,
Most of you know because of my insurance I have to do a doctor supervised diet for 6 months, that puts me into Nov. I have been going to my PCP since May and lost 7 pounds, my blood pressure has been high the past two visits and my feet and ankles have been swelling so she put me on water pills, now me knees have been bothering me to the point I limp for about 2 hours at work in the morning. At this rate, I am afraid of what shape I will be in by nov.
I want to run something by you guys and see what you think, the insurance rules state that I have to be a part of a diet program for six months within the last 2 years. I went to my PCP for a physical and pap in Jan. and I think in march, I didn't start the (diet****il may. I was thinking about asking my PCP to write a letter stating that I have been under her care since Jan, then go on to say that I have been following a diet and exercise program up to this time. That would be my 6 months.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.....Do you think that would be asking my PCP to lie? Thanks, Dana

Hi Dana - I heard you were at the meeting on Saturday - but you disappeared before I got a chance to say hi!!!
You may not like my answer, but here's my two cents... If you are asking your PCP to say that you have been following a diet and exercise program up to this time, and you started your diet in May, then, yes, that is asking him/her to lie. However, maybe you can approach it a different way...if your PCP can document your weight over a specific period of time - your insurance requires 6 months - perhaps they will consider a letter stating those facts and include how your BP is higher, your knees are giving you a problem and the swelling has increased? That may be worth a try to let your insurance co. see what comorbidities you have and how they are getting worse the longer you wait.
That being said, I know it seems like forever, especially since you are in pain, but the time will pass by quickly. And believe me, I know how frustrating and sometimes depressing it was for me to see how people all around me were losing and changing while I was at a stand still waiting, but, I got there, and so will you! And REMEMBER THIS...We're here for you!
I know it will all work out for good.

I thank you for your answer, and I would never ask my PCP to lie, but I am going to ask her to see if maybe she could send a letter in, adding the comorbidities. The swelling goes down if I take the water pill, but I don't like taking it everyday, because all I get done is running to the bathroom. I am sorry if I am coming off as a whinner, I guess the waiting is getting to me. Thanks again, Dana
Hey Dana, Missed you Saturday. I turned around and saw you, but being such a chatty Cathy, I missed giving you the stuff I have. Maybe I could arrange to meet you somewhere if you still want it. I think it's worth a try asking your PCP to write another letter on your behalf, especially since you're in agony with the swollen feet & higher BP. It's got to be frustrating. Hang tough. Maybe you can get everything pushed up. This is truely gonna be worth waiting for just in case November is the best that they can do. Keeping good thoughts for you friend. ((HUGS)) Elissa
Thank you Elissa, yea, I have calmed down a bit since I made that post, it's just that I see how good all of you look and how happy, I want to be that NOW....I have an appointment with my PCP on Aug. 3 and I am going to talk to her about possibly writing a letter, just to add the comorbitities. Can't hurt to try and I realize Nov will be here before I know it. I guess I am just having the blues. Thanks for being there for me. Yea I am sorry I ran out of there sat, I forgot about your clothes for me. Linda had some for me and she was leaving so I went out with her. Maybe we could find a place to meet, just name it. Talk to you later.
