Pain medications?

I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Miller on August 10th. I had my Pre-Op Testing on Monday July 12th. No one has ever said that I should stop taking certain pain medications like Ibruprofen. Did I just miss something? I don't take any other medications other than Alieve or Advil for the occasional headache. Should I not take these anymore and if not what can I take? Also are there other things I should or shouldn't be doing prior to surgery that they may not have informed me of. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brendon

Brendon, Best to check with Dr. Miller. He will inform you what to take and what to stop. Each Dr. is a little different. Call him and follow his instructions. Sometimes the differences can confuse us. When in doubt follow your own program. ((HUGS)) Elissa

Dr. Miller is my surgeon as well. Ibuprofen, Aleve, and Motrin are no-nos. Give Tina a call and she will confirm this. We can take Tylenol as an over the counter pain med. I don't know that any announcement was made in our sessions, but I was on 12 ibuprofens daily (the max you can take) before surgery for neck issues. My pain doctor arranged a sort of a nerve block procedure that helped some. Dr. Miller told me then that Ibuprofen was out. There are other pain meds that work. Diane C.

I am assuming this is post op. Should I stop taking these things pre op?

Brendon, I am Dr. Irgau's patient. He suggested that we stop 1 month PRIOR to surgery any Ibuphrophen, Aleve, Advil and Celebrex type products. But again you need to check with Dr. Miller for his advice. Elissa
