Pulmonologist question
Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping to have an RNY at the Barix Clinic in PA. I thought I had finished all my preop tests required by the surgeon (cardiology, sleep study, and psychology) only to find out yesterday that BSBC now wants me to see a pulmonologist before they will give approval.
I just switched to BSBC (PPO) as of 7-1-04, so I suppose I should be pleased that they are even considering approving my surgery, but I was wondering if anyone knows if a pulmonary consult is something that BSBC routinely requires for all WLS candidates?
Since I already had the sleep apnea study, it seems a bit redundant if that is the main thing they are looking for. The first appointment I could get with a pulmonologist is Aug. 16, adding another month (at least) of waiting, which is frustrating.
Thanks, Martha
Martha,
I have BC/BS PPO (in PA) and I needed to see a pulminologist too, in addition to the sleep study. A lot of times it depends on your surgeon's requirements and your own health history. I have allergies and asthma. I had to go -- even though I had the sleep study, a PFT, full exam, etc just months before>>>but good news>>>>>it was just to have a pulminologist affiliated with the hospital go over the test results and sign off on them. No additional or repeat tests! I hope it's like that for you. GOOD LUCK.
