Hi everyone, Most of you know the drama I have been through with my husbands insurance company. I am jumping through hoops to get this surgery approved. If all goes well, I will be done with the 6 month supervised diet the first of Nov. then I will try to get a surgery date asap. My problem or question is my husband just decided to retire Feb 25, I will take on the health insurance, after the first of the year. Question is will my new insurance pick up after care if I have had my surgery (I hope) allready??? I dont know where to begin to try to pick the right insurance. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dana

Dana, I have a story close to yours...not the hassles but I have BC/BS PPO which is covering everything for my August 2 surgery and I will be changing coverage the following month. I am on COBRA from my former employer and my time runs out the month after my surgery. So like you I was wondering about continued coverage when I pick up new insurance...and this is what I was told when I called BC/BS. If I carefully look at any insurance I am considering and MAKE SURE they have a clause saying that they cover PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS, I will be OK. OK, it hasn't actually happened yet, but I somewhat trust what they are saying but will definitely call my new provider BEFORE I sign up for anything. PS> I explained my problem to Dr. Iragu and some of his staff people when I went for my initial consult. I begged to have surgery prior to losing coverage. Well it turns out I am, HOORAY but it just worked out that way. Dr Iragu and his staff all told me they have quite a few patients who change insurance mid-process and they do fine (are covered). HOPE THIS HELPS!

Dana, No problem! If I find something I think is interesting I'll let you know. Of course you'll have to see if it works along with your own current coverage. But I know it's going to take some searching so if I can help you or anyone else...I am so pleased with the insurance I have now I really hate that I have to change. (Already asked) but Cobra rules are the rules! Have a good day! Kit
