Motrin use?

Hi everyone, Question -- I've had undiagnosed arm/shoulder/neck pain for about six months now. I just found out it might be a pinched nerve and I have found that a daily dose of Motrin (2) and an ice pack helps TREMENDOUSLY! Will I have to stop Motrin after WLS? I mentioned that I might have to do this to my PCP and pharmacist and both said that there really isn't a substitute for Motrin. All drugs in that class would have the same possible gastric effects. Anyone post-surgery with any experience with this? And about the sleep apnea question. I suffered for years, dozing at my desk at work, watching TV or reading at home, even -- REALLY BAD, caught myself when driving. No dr. ever considered testing me until I started testing for WLS. Yep, I have it and have a CPAP machine too (about six months now). I am still not used to it and often take it off during my sleep. I don't think I am wearing it long enough each night because I still get tired sometimes during the day (but not as much!). I am HOPING the surgery and weight loss will take away the need for it!

I had neck pain prior to WLS and my PCP sent me to a pain specialist. An MRI showed that I have a form of arthritis (simplified explanation) in a region of my neck. So the pain specialist started with the simplist solution -- medication. He had me on 12 iboprofen a day (rather than scrip med) which helped some, but not enough. We finally decided to have a day-surgery procedure in which they did a temporary nerve block of some sort. It helped. And frankly, I'm 13 days out of surgery and, between the pain meds and whatever else is happening, I've had no significant neck pain. So, I would see if you can get a referral to a pain specialist to see if there are alternative treatments beyond medication. Diane C.

Thanks Diane, I will definitely look into this. I'm having my WL surgery on August 2, so as soon as I start feeling pain again and Dr. Iragu says OK, I'll talk to my PCP about the nerve block. Kit
