LIFE INSURNACE
I think it is possible to get aproved even though you are obese but they probably require a higher premium. My husban has life insurance through PriMerica - I think that is what they are called & there are a number of offices in the area. It is about 40 or so bucks a month for about 200K. However, I think there is a period of time after you sign a policy - at least some places where the poilicy does not"kick in" for a certain amount of time after you sign up - so that is something to ask about. I would call around to local ins companies - Nationwide, Allstate... If you have yor car insurance or homeowners ins with a local group you may ask them too - you may get a price break.
Good luck with your surgery.
Hey Robert,
I think a couple of people have already given you advice. But here is mine. Make sure you check the fine print. Most insurance policies will not cover pre-existing conditions or scheduled events within a 90-day to six month period.
Having said that check out some of the local credit unions. You can probably get one of their low end policies without a blood test and weigh-in, or a check-in with your doctor. If you are looking for a higher end policy they are definitely going to check-in with your doctor, Dr. Irgaau or Wynn, and any other doctor you visited in the last three years. No point in hiding information because if they find out you withheld info they can and will invalidate the policy rather than paying out on it.
I had to get a new life insurance policy recently since my job got outsourced. The bad news is that GSB might improve your health, but in the eyes of insurers it increases your risk. Even though I am only "overweight" now and not "obese" with zero medications and perfect blood pressure and cholesterol, I didn't qualify for anyones preferred policy and had to settle for the "standard" policy.
Hope that you find something soon.
Rob
Hey there! I am an insurance agent with State Farm Insurance. You're not going to be able to get life insurance with a surgery date scheduled. That is one of the questions they ask you. And if you lie on the application you're death benefit would be denied anyway once they order your medical records (if something should happen). Paper trail would show that you have seen the doctors and surgery date was scheduled prior to you applying for the life insurance. I'm sure someone out there would tell you they could write you a policy but... if you read the fine print as other had mentioned you wouldn't be covered. Now, after surgery I would certainly look into getting life insurance. Life insurance is not for you... it's for those you leave behind. I too had my policies for a long time. However, I've been re-writing mine over the past couple of years since I've been loosing more & more weight. I first started out with a "rated" policy. Went to a regular non-tobacco, then Preferred and come Sept my surgery anniversary date I'm going to apply for Super-Preferred Rates!! Cheapest they got!
I had went and made sure I had my Will, Power of Attorney & Living will all up to date prior to my surgery date. It made me feel at peace... just in case! Good luck to you and I wish you the best in your journey!!
