Hello Delaware I have looked for sweeteners to use after surgery. My co worker handed me this stuff called Stevia Plus Fiber. It is very sweet, I just used some in my decaf coffee. It is suppose to be an alternative to sweeteners. The ingredients are Fiber and Stevia Leaf Extract. Has anyone heard of this stuff? ~Shelly

I've never heard of that either but anything with fiber is a plus. I use either Equal (walmart's version) or Splenda.

Where do you get stevia and how cost efficient is it?

www.stevia.net. Pretty costly to me.

I believe stevia is a derivative of sugar, and those of us who are allergic to Equal and SweetnLow can usually have it with no problems.

Shelly, I have used Stevia and found it to be wonderful. I don't know a whole lot about it but will share what I do know. It is my understanding that it has 0 calories and far safer than other reduced calorie sweeteners. I think when it is in powdered form it is about 300 times sweeter than cane sugar. When it is leaf form I think it is about 75 times sweeter. There is a web site where I am sure you can pull more information if you like http://steviva.com/ BTW - the last time I had it, it was in tapicoa pudding that I bought in a grocery store in Quarryville PA ... totally delicious ... have considered driving all the way back there just to get another serving of it! *grin* Best Wishes!
