Well this is my first full day at home. Been crazy just laying around and not being able to do anything. For those who dont know I was an open surgery. I just really dont know what things to eat in the morning. I get my protein in without a problem but how much water a day. I had lose 12 pounds before going in the hosp but now I have gained total of 16. This just does not make sense to me why I would gain more just from being in the hosp. My ankles are really swell. I'm going to call the Dr tomorrow. Did any of this happen to any one else? Any suggestions email me please. I want to say thanks to all of you I could not have done it without your words of encourgement.

Joyce, don't worry about weight gain right now, it actually makes perfect sense. They pump you FULL of fluids when you are in the hospital having this surgery - possibly moreso since you were open, I'm not sure. It is normal to see an initial weight gain from that -it will drop very quickly. By yor 2 week check up you will see it is all gone. As far as what to eat in the morning - it depends on your doctor's recomendations. I was on puree for the 1st mo so it would have been yogurt, thin cream of wheat, or a protein shake. Hope your swelling goes down soon, I know that is a pain. Fortunatelly I did not swell after this surgery but after me c-section I had two footballs for feet! Take Care!

Hi Joyce, In total agreement with kathy V. When I came home I was retaining gallons of fluid. I did myself a favor tho and stayed off the scale till my 2 week check-up. It helped me avoid being frustrated because I knew the scale wouldn't be accurate. Sipping lots of fluids and elevating my feet helped alot. Mine was all gone in a matter of days. Hope you're feeling better soon. Linda

Hi Joyce, Glad your home and all is well. I am still pre op, however I see alot of profiles where weight gain happens after the surgery. From what I understand, it is mostly fluid. Be blessed and get plenty of rest. ~Shelly

Hi Joyce, Glad to see that you are home, and like linda said, try to stay away from the scale until your next visit to your doctor. Like Shelly, I am still pre-op, but all of theis advice has been good to absorb as i go into my final months before surgery!! Take Care and i wish you a speedy recovery!! -Joe-

Dear Joyce, Welcome home and to "the club" ... secret belly shake will be forthcomming! Do your best not to spend too much effort worrying about weight loss, especially at this stage of the game ... tons of time left to worry about it later *grin* Keep your eye on your fluid intake, walking, breathing treatment, vitamins, meds, protein suppliments and most importantly for right now your REST ... and the WL will take care of itself!!! Welcome home. I am confident that your next report will be one of marvelous victory . . . just like everyone else. My surgery is next week, so remind me to keep focused on the distant future (like August 1) rather than the now. Feel better. Feel energized. And know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Hi Joyce! I am home too! I heard you were asking about me this message board thing is new to me, the girl in the room with me at the hospital told me about it. I am going to try to be there Thursday. I had a minor setback and am still on clear liquids but very swollen too. It's O.K., its normal. stay off the scale until you go back give the water retention time to go to go away. See ya soon! Dawn
