Nausea and diarrhea? ( gross question alert)

Gmorning all, I had quite a night last night beginning at about 2:30 AM till 4. Looking for input from anyone who has even remotely experienced anything like this. I woke up, had to pee and back to bed. I hadn't eaten anything since dinner about 6 PM but had been drinking right up until shortly before bedtime. I took a sip of iced tea and went back to bed. I was lying there and got a pain, figured all the fiber was kicking in...over the next 2 hours or so I kept having to run in there. it started out as constipation with difficulty and progressed into diarrhea. To add insult to injury, I began having this involuntary dry heaving, nothing more than spit came up but it sure felt icky. The nausea would pass after the diarreah stopped, then would begin again, this happened probably 3 times. I broke out into a sweat...it really felt like what I hear dumping described as! I have been increasing my fiber this week and the pain surely felt "normal" enough. The whole incident seemed to be triggered when I took that sip of tea before going back to bed. It didn't sit well for whatever reason at the time and that's why I didn't take more than a sip of it to drink. Do you think I could possibly have had a dumping episode? I have never dumped yet and only know what I've read. Is it even possible to dump from something like that? I'm thinking maybe the whole thing was a sort of chain reaction and bad timing LOL. I'd appreciate any thoughts on the subject. I feel fine this morning, just a little sleepy from missing 2 hours worth. Thanks, Linda

Hi Linda! Sorry you had such a bad time. It sure sounds like dumping to me. I know that sometimes tea or coffee (albeit the coffee is decaf) it all makes me go go go. I never dry heaved from it but you know what I have noticed, I have been getting nauseous from normal foods lately. Not real bad but more than ever before. I had some eggs with cheese about 4 forks of it and ate slowly and I still feel icky and nauseous. I use to not be able to eat the eggs because they felt as though they were stuck but I was starting to be able to eat them and now its nausea... but with anything...Just this week I noticed all the nausea with mostly all the normal foods I eat. I am trying to eat even slower and maybe my pouch is just full? I hardly eat much at each session (you know the normal small amount) but maybe I am eating more than I think?? not sure. maybe it was the little bit of caffein in the tea? Sounds a bit odd you would dump from that though but our bodies are still going through some motions. Hope you are feeling better now Elizabeth M

Linda, Sounds like you are now a graduate. It has been my experience that "dumping" can take awhile to happen. You could be experiencing your feelings from a earlier meal you had or something you drank. It could also be the fiber increase telling your body that something is different. Nausea, dry heaving, sweating, "foaming" are pretty standard in the dumping phase. Sometimes it is very hard to diagnose, you should journal the experience so that it happens again you can try and isolate the factors which cause you experience. Enjoy the rest of the day. Rob

Just my opinion, but I don't think that you dump 8 hours later. There is a tummy virus going around that's short and mean. My son had it, and thought he had food poisoning, but again.. it was 8 -10 hours after he'd eaten. Don't forget.. we still get the normal sicknesses that go around too ! lol Hope all is better.

Linda, I would just monitor yourself over the next 24 - 48 hours or so. I've personally never had dumping give me those symtoms but I know it manifests iteself differently in different people. But it sounds a little like the virus I've had this week. It also sounds a little like the symptoms I had leading up to my intestinal hernia too. Just be careful & if it happens again give Dr. Wynn a call.
