Hiya Shelly. I'm a big fan of Chocolate Unjury - I have been having 2 choc unjury shakes/day with skim milk. I was doing it as hot chocolate, but then I got bored of it so now I do it as "chocolate milk". It's really pretty good. I get about 30 grams of protein in per shake and it doesn't have a bad aftertaste. And the unflavored Unjury is the best I've found for not having a nasty taste. Everyone's tastes are different, with all the growing selection out there, I'm sure you'll find one to suit your individual taste, just don't stock up before hand - because your tastes sure do change as a post-op. Best wishes on your upcoming surgery!! ((hugs)) Carla

Hey Shelly, One thing to be aware of is that there are at least two distinct practices and philosophies for GSB. The people going through PMRI and Drs. Wynn and Irgaau are told to keep everything below 6g of sugar. Not sure what you are mixing the Gourmet protein with, but just about anything other than water will add additional sugars to that total. If you go on-line most sites have sample packages of protein available. Actually Carb Buster's has never had a very good selection of protein powders except for Protein DeLight. My favorite is still Unjury because it mixes with just about anything. I also like the Real Meals which come is 60g packets that set you up for 2 smoothies per day. Both are available on-line. Rob

Good Morning Shelly! Your date is coming SOON! I can so remember being at this point. Hang in there ... I am one of those whose tastes did a complete turn around after surgery. Things that I thought were going to be perfect after surgery were not, but then again, things I thought would never work, I loved. Strange side effect some of us experience. My tastes are still a bit whacky at times, but getting more back to normal as time passes. So, I tell you all of that to say, don't overbuy pre-surgery. Your tastes may change and you will find that truly you eat so much less than you realize when you are pre. I am still using up the jello and pudding packages I bought pre-op *grin*. As far as protein drinks go ... you basically have two choices. You can go with the powered protein (cheaper when you are drinking a lot of protein) or you can go with the ready to drink (RTD) protein, which can be a bit spendy. But I found that the that RTD proteins would be great for early post-ops and when we older posties are on the go. The thing I like best about them is the fact that it is my understanding that they do not deteriate (protein break-down). So you can open one and pour out of it into your single serving size and thus not have a lot of mess or waste. This convience may be worth the extra cost for you while you are early post-op. Personal decision. I prefer the taste of them and still use them when I am on the go. I tried the gormet protein (hated it - the only protein powder that I can say I truly hated - I mixed it with water) You can get the myoplex in individual bottle if you order from The Vitamin Shoppe (shipping is 4.95 for any size order). You may also be able to ask them to sell single servings ... worth a try. Carb Busters has the myoplex carb sense in single servings, but it is pretty expensive per bottle (2.99) Another option to try it. I just bought a four pack of it from Vitamin Shoppe for 7.50 for my vacation/conference. As for the RTD Isopure, I have never cared for it, but then again, I never liked gatoraide. Some people love it. I just bought it again for under 3.00 a bottle at Vitamin Shoppe. I purchased the grape and it was a little better than the orange, but certainly not on the top of my favorites list. I would highly suggest that you opt for protein samples for now or just buy individual bottles. You can order them all over the place on the net. If you need any suggestions where to look, email me and I will be glad to get the addys for you. I am not sure I am going to make it to the next support meeting, but if I can, I would be more than glad to share some of my powdered protein with you (give you some samples). Or maybe if I can't make it, I can still get some samples to someone who will be there. I don't have a lot of varitey, but would be more than glad to share what I do have. Just let me know. I personally like Powdered Unjury (chocolate and unflavored - do not care for their vanilla for some strange reason) Powdered Whey Fruity (Fruit Punch and Lemonaide) RTD Protein Ice (Grape) RTD EAS Precision Protein RTD EAS Myoplex Carb Sense Here is a link to a page where you can find my more indepth reviews of protein powders that I have tried (grms of protein, grms of sugar, etc) if you are interested. http://groups.msn.com/PMRIWLSFriends/wetriedwelike.msnw Please remember, that all of our tastes are different, and can be even more so after surgery. So something I may love you may hate, and vise versa. Best wishes finding what will work for you. Hugs, Tammy

Shelly, Just like Cathy posted above me, Carb Busters De-Lites just off of Kirkwood Highway is a good place to go. I went there for the first time this morning before i came into work. They have multiple kinds of protein drinks and the best part is that they will give you a sample to try before you purchase it! I bought the Protein Ice Blue Raspberry. They are very courteous there. The bottle of Protein Ice was $3.49/bottle. Take care! -Joe-
